Student answer (Band 6.0)
Hello Madam/Sir,
With high esteem and prestige it is stated that i find an advertisement for waitress in local newspaper. I am currently working as a psychologist in Special Education Department from 8:00 a.m to 1:00 p.m. I am quite happy and satisfied with my current job but i want to do another job as i have alot of leisure time in the evening and also i need more money to fulfill my expenses.
It would be good for me if i have a chance to have part time job.
I can be available for this job from 4:00 pm to 8:00 p.m.
I am suitable for this job because i am very active and energetic person. I have good social skills and i am a amiable girl. i have all basic and advanced etiquettes to deal to customers.
I am bachelor, i barely have responsibilities of family so i would not ask for leave without any genuine reason.
I shall be available for interview in evening in weekdays.
Thankyou.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address all three requested points: you explain that you work as a psychologist in a special education department, give reasons you could suit restaurant work, and state your availability for both shifts and an interview. The details about your social skills, energy, and limited family responsibilities are relevant. However, some points are not fully developed: for example, you say you have “good social skills” but do not give a brief example of dealing with people, and “in evening in weekdays” does not identify a specific interview time. The purpose is clear, but a more direct application and a little more specific supporting detail would make the letter more complete and persuasive.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The information is arranged in a generally sensible order: your current work and motivation come first, followed by your availability and suitability, then the interview. This makes the main message easy to follow. Some links between ideas are mechanical, particularly the repeated use of “and also,” and the short sentence “It would be good for me if I have a chance to have part time job” repeats the preceding point about wanting another job. Paragraphing is limited, and the closing is abrupt. Grouping related information into clear paragraphs and using more natural transitions would improve progression. A conventional closing would also help the letter feel complete.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough vocabulary to communicate your circumstances and relevant personal qualities, including “active and energetic,” “social skills,” and “amiable.” However, several choices are unnatural or imprecise for a job application. “With high esteem and prestige” does not naturally introduce an application, while “fulfill my expenses” and “basic and advanced etiquettes” are awkward collocations. “I am a bachelor” is also not the natural way to describe being unmarried. These choices do not prevent the reader from understanding your main points, but they reduce precision and the professional tone. Prefer straightforward, conventional application language and accurate phrases for customer service and availability.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You use a mixture of simple sentences and longer clauses, such as the sentence explaining your current work and why you want additional employment. The main meaning remains clear, but some grammatical errors occur across the letter. Examples include “if I have a chance” where a conditional form is needed, “I am a amiable girl,” and “I am bachelor,” which show problems with articles and sentence construction. Capitalisation is also inconsistent: “i” should be “I,” and “Thankyou” should be written as two words. Review articles, conditional forms, and sentence boundaries, then proofread for consistent capitalisation and punctuation. More accurate control of these patterns would make your application smoother.
