Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses the three bullet points, but the development is limited. You mention your current status (BBA graduate), your suitability, and your availability. However, the response is under the 150-word minimum, which significantly impacts the score. The content is quite brief and lacks the formal tone expected in a job application letter. For example, the final paragraph is confusing and does not clearly state when you are available for an interview, instead offering general thoughts on the nature of restaurant work. To improve, ensure you expand on your skills with specific examples and maintain a professional, polite tone throughout the letter.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The letter lacks a clear structure. It is presented as a series of disjointed sentences rather than a cohesive letter. There is a lack of appropriate paragraphing and formal letter conventions (such as a salutation or closing). Cohesive devices are largely absent, making the progression of ideas feel mechanical and sometimes difficult to follow. For instance, the transition between your current status and your suitability is abrupt. To improve, use linking words like 'furthermore', 'consequently', or 'in addition' to connect your ideas, and ensure you follow the standard format for a formal letter.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is basic and repetitive, which limits your ability to express yourself clearly. There are several errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'flied' instead of 'field', 'planed' instead of 'planned', and 'clam' instead of 'calm'. These errors occasionally impede the reader's understanding. You rely on simple adjectives like 'well suited' and 'hard'. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use more precise professional vocabulary related to customer service and employment, and pay closer attention to spelling and word forms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including issues with verb tenses ('I finding', 'I read', 'I see'), sentence structure, and punctuation. Many sentences are fragmented or run-on, such as 'so I read a random newspaper and I see the advertisements of the job of waiters and waitresses.' The lack of control over basic sentence construction makes the text difficult to read. To improve, focus on mastering simple sentence structures before attempting complex ones, and ensure you check for subject-verb agreement and consistent tense usage.
