Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The letter successfully addresses all three bullet points in the prompt. You clearly state your current role as a nursing tutor, explain your suitability by highlighting transferable skills like communication and patience, and provide your availability for an interview. The tone is appropriate for a formal job application. To reach a higher band, ensure that your ideas are slightly more developed; for instance, you could provide a specific example of a challenging situation you handled in your current job to further demonstrate your suitability for a fast-paced restaurant environment. Overall, the response is well-focused and meets all requirements of the task.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a formal closing. Each paragraph has a central theme, which helps the reader follow your argument easily. You use some cohesive devices such as 'At present', 'although', and 'in addition' to link your ideas. However, the flow could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that punctuation around these devices is consistent. For example, the transition between your current job and your suitability for the restaurant role is clear, but the paragraphing could be slightly more balanced to enhance the overall structure.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'interpersonal skills', 'flexible hours', and 'dining experience'. There are some minor errors in word choice, such as 'well sited' instead of 'well suited' and 'pleaseant' (spelling error). While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, it remains somewhat standard. To achieve a higher score, try to incorporate more precise collocations or less common vocabulary related to the hospitality industry, such as 'fast-paced environment', 'customer-facing role', or 'professional demeanor', which would elevate the sophistication of your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this task. However, there are several grammatical slips, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('my skills and experience makes me') and inconsistent capitalization (e.g., 'Excellent', 'in addition'). Additionally, there are minor punctuation errors, such as missing spaces before commas and inconsistent capitalization at the start of sentences. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and sentence-level mechanics will help improve your accuracy.
