Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response successfully addresses all three bullet points of the prompt. You clearly explain your current role as a part-time intern, describe your suitability by highlighting relevant soft skills like patience and organization, and specify your availability for an interview. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter of application. To improve, you could provide a more concrete example of a situation where you handled customers, rather than just stating that your internship gives you an edge. This would further develop your ideas and demonstrate your suitability more convincingly, moving the response closer to the higher band descriptors.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each serving a distinct purpose. The progression of ideas is easy to follow, moving from your current status to your skills and finally to your availability. You use some cohesive devices such as 'In addition' and 'I believe', which help connect your thoughts. However, the flow could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that transitions between sentences are less mechanical. For instance, the transition between your internship experience and your personal attributes could be smoother to enhance the overall coherence of the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'attentive', 'effectively', and 'beneficial'. The language is generally appropriate for a formal application. However, the vocabulary is somewhat repetitive and lacks the sophistication required for a higher band. For example, you use the phrase 'new skills' twice in close proximity. To improve, try to incorporate more precise collocations and a broader range of professional vocabulary related to the hospitality industry. Avoiding simple, repetitive phrasing will help you demonstrate a more flexible and precise command of the language.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is generally effective. However, there are several persistent grammatical errors that detract from the quality of the writing. Specifically, you frequently fail to capitalize the personal pronoun 'I' (e.g., 'i m', 'i would'), and there are subject-verb agreement issues, such as 'my skills and experience makes me' (should be 'make'). Additionally, 'Dear Sir/Mam' is slightly informal; 'Dear Sir or Madam' is preferred. While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on proofreading for basic punctuation and subject-verb agreement is essential.
