Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses all three bullet points of the prompt: current activities, suitability, and interview availability. However, the development of these ideas is quite limited. For instance, the explanation of suitability is vague, relying on general phrases like 'good at working and managing' rather than specific skills. The tone is also inconsistent with a formal job application letter, appearing more like a casual email. To improve, you should expand on your experience with specific examples and adopt a more professional, formal register throughout the letter.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The letter is divided into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is very limited and often mechanical. Transitions between sentences are frequently missing, making the flow feel disjointed. For example, the jump from discussing your undergraduate program to your availability for an interview lacks a smooth logical progression. Improving the use of linking words such as 'furthermore', 'consequently', or 'in addition' would help create a more professional and coherent flow between your ideas.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is basic and repetitive, which limits your ability to express your suitability for the role effectively. You rely on simple verbs like 'do', 'find', and 'leave'. There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'waitress type job' and 'managing and serving things'. To reach a higher band, you need to use more precise, professional vocabulary related to the hospitality industry, such as 'customer service', 'previous experience', or 'flexible availability'. Spelling errors like 'bussines' and 'yur' also detract from the overall quality.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement ('i currently doing', 'i is good for me'), verb tense usage ('i dne a job'), and sentence structure. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing capital letters for the pronoun 'I' and improper sentence boundaries. While you attempt some complex ideas, the lack of control over basic grammar prevents the use of a wider range of structures. Focusing on mastering basic sentence construction and proofreading for subject-verb agreement is essential.
