The Manager

Restaurant A

Respected Sir,

I wrote this letter to apply for the post of waiter as I have heard the announcement made on newspaper. I am currently working as a waiter in the remote restaurant and I think I am fit to work in your famous restaurant.

As for this job,I am trained from Royal Institute of Management and I am well experienced as I have been doing this job as waiter for the past five years. I can not only do the job of a waiter, but also do other works related to the restaurant. I am excellent in dealing with the customers irrespective of their attitude.

If your restaurant offer me a chance to get into selection, I can attend the interview as per your convenience. Therefore, I would be grateful if your restaurant provide me an opportunity to for the post of waiter.

Thanking you.

Yours faithfully,

DW

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses all three bullet points of the prompt: it mentions current employment, highlights relevant experience and training, and proposes a time for an interview. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter of application. However, the development of ideas is somewhat basic. For instance, while you mention being trained at the 'Royal Institute of Management', you could have elaborated more on the specific skills gained there to better demonstrate your suitability. The letter is functional and covers the requirements, but it lacks the depth of detail that would elevate it to a higher band score.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter follows a logical structure, moving from the purpose of the letter to personal qualifications and finally to the interview request. Paragraphing is present, though the transition between the introduction and the body could be smoother. You use some cohesive devices like 'As for this job' and 'Therefore', but the flow is occasionally mechanical. The referencing is generally clear, and the reader can easily follow your argument. To improve, try using a wider variety of linking words to connect your sentences more naturally rather than relying on simple conjunctions.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task but remains somewhat repetitive and simple. Phrases like 'do the job of a waiter' and 'do other works' are functional but lack sophistication. You demonstrate some ability to use topic-specific vocabulary such as 'post of waiter' and 'well experienced', but there is little evidence of less common or idiomatic language. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise verbs and adjectives that convey your professional experience more effectively, such as 'possess', 'proficient', or 'versatile'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'I wrote this letter' (should be 'I am writing'), 'in the remote restaurant' (should be 'a remote restaurant'), and 'if your restaurant offer me' (should be 'offers'). Additionally, 'I am trained from' is an awkward collocation; 'I received training at' would be more accurate. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focus on subject-verb agreement and consistent tense usage.
