Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses all three bullet points of the prompt: it explains your current status as a student, describes your suitability by mentioning your communication skills and proximity to the restaurant, and provides a time for an interview. However, the development of these ideas is quite basic. For instance, the explanation of your suitability could be expanded with more professional detail regarding your work ethic or previous experience, rather than just mentioning your hobby of learning French. The tone is also somewhat informal for a job application letter, which affects the overall professional impact of the response.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The letter lacks a formal structure. It is written as a single, long paragraph without clear transitions or logical grouping of ideas. There is a lack of cohesive devices; sentences are often linked by 'and' or 'so', which makes the flow repetitive and mechanical. To improve, you should use clear paragraph breaks to separate the introduction, the body (your suitability), and the conclusion (the interview request). Using linking words like 'furthermore', 'consequently', or 'in addition' would help create a more professional and logical progression of ideas.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is limited and repetitive. You rely on basic words like 'job', 'work', and 'advantage'. There are also some errors in word choice, such as 'reputated' (should be 'reputable') and 'career role path', which sounds unnatural. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning, it lacks the precision and variety required for higher bands. You should aim to use more professional collocations related to employment, such as 'vacancy', 'candidate', or 'professional development', to demonstrate a wider range of vocabulary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors, particularly regarding punctuation and sentence structure. There is a lack of capital letters for 'I' and proper nouns, and many sentences are run-on sentences that lack proper full stops. For example, 'I'm a student whose studying finance' should be 'who is studying'. The use of complex structures is minimal, and the overall control of grammar is inconsistent. Focusing on basic sentence construction, subject-verb agreement, and correct punctuation would significantly improve the clarity and accuracy of your writing.
