Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response covers all three bullet points from the prompt: it mentions that the writer recently completed a bachelor degree, explains suitability by citing previous restaurant experience and communication skills, and provides availability for an interview. However, the response falls significantly short of the 150-word minimum, containing only 107 words. This under-length issue prevents the ideas from being fully developed as required by the higher band descriptors. Consequently, Task Achievement is penalised for not meeting the word count requirement.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The letter maintains a clear overall arrangement and follows a logical sequence from stating the purpose of the writing to describing experience and finally offering availability. Paragraphing is used, though some paragraphs are very brief, such as the single-sentence body paragraphs. Cohesive devices are minimal, with some reliance on basic transitions. Referencing is generally clear, and the letter opens and closes with appropriate, albeit slightly inaccurate, formal conventions (e.g., lowercase in 'with regards,'). Overall, the structural progression is adequate for a short letter.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, attempting some topic-specific items such as 'communication', 'teamwork skill', 'fast-faced environment' (intended as fast-paced), and 'client handling'. However, there are noticeable lexical errors, including word form and collocation issues like 'recently completed' (should be present perfect 'have recently completed'), 'for support myself' (to support myself), and 'experiance' (experience). The range is limited but minimally adequate to convey the intended message.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as 'I have good communication and teamwork skill which is necessary in fast-faced environment like food chain'. However, grammatical control is inconsistent, featuring frequent errors such as missing articles ('part time job', 'future'), incorrect verb tenses ('I am recently completed'), and spelling/typographical errors ('immediatly'). Punctuation and capitalization errors are also present, particularly at the beginning of the sign-off ('with regards,'). These errors occasionally cause slight difficulty for the reader.
