Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response successfully covers all three bullet points required by the task prompt. First, the writer clearly explains their current situation in the second paragraph by stating they are studying at college and completing their higher secondary education. Second, suitability for the work is addressed in the third paragraph, where the candidate highlights relevant personal traits such as being friendly, polite, and responsible, alongside previous experience serving food and drinks at family and social events. Third, the availability for an interview is precisely stated in the fourth paragraph as any weekday after 3 p.m. The tone is appropriate for a job application letter. All parts are addressed well, and ideas are sufficiently extended, making this a solid performance that aligns well with the Band 7 requirements for Task Achievement.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter exhibits a clear logical progression and is appropriately organized into standard correspondence paragraphs. Each paragraph has a distinct focus, moving smoothly from the purpose of the letter in the introduction to current activities, suitability, interview availability, and sign-off. Cohesive devices are used reasonably well, such as 'First', 'Additionally', or transitional phrasing like 'Alternatively , i can attend at a time that is convenient for you.' However, punctuation spacing errors around commas and periods are slightly distracting, and referencing can occasionally be improved. Overall, the arrangement is coherent and easy to follow, supporting a solid Band 6.5 or 7.0 performance.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The candidate demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary suitable for a job application letter, employing phrases such as 'practical work experience', 'professional', and 'procedures carefully'. There are some successful less common items attempted, though occasional word choice errors and slips appear, such as 'well studied to working' instead of 'well suited to working'. Spelling and word choice errors do not impede communication, as the intended meaning remains entirely clear throughout. The range is minimally sufficient for flexibility and precision, matching the Band 6 criteria closely.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The writer uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating attempts at subordination and relative clauses, such as 'I am looking for a part time job that will allow me to gain practical work experience while continuing my studies.' There are noticeable punctuation and spacing errors throughout the text (e.g., spaces before periods and commas like 'newspaper .I' and 'interested in this opportunity and believe that my skills and experience make me a suitable candidate for thr position .'). Minor typographical errors such as 'thr' instead of 'the' also occur. Despite these slips, sentence structures are generally controlled, and errors do not impede communication.
