Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response only partially addresses the task requirements. While the writer mentions their current job as a chef and gives an interview date, the tone and format are largely inappropriate for a formal letter of application. Furthermore, the length requirement is not met, as the text contains only 112 words, falling significantly short of the 150-word minimum. The ideas are limited and lack the necessary expansion and professional elaboration expected in a job application letter. To reach a higher level, you should ensure all bullet points are fully developed with extended descriptions of your suitability and adhere strictly to the minimum word count while maintaining an appropriate formal tone.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
The information and ideas are not arranged coherently, primarily because the response lacks paragraphing entirely and is presented as a single block of text. There is a lack of logical progression, and cohesive devices are virtually absent, making the flow disjointed. For example, transitioning abruptly from cafe experience to cooking skills without proper paragraph breaks hinders readability. To improve, you must organize your response into logical paragraphs—such as an introduction, body paragraphs for current work and suitability, and a concluding paragraph for the interview availability—and use appropriate cohesive ties to link your ideas smoothly.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The vocabulary used is limited and repetitive, with noticeable errors that cause some difficulty for the reader. There are several spelling and word choice mistakes, such as 'yeras' instead of years, 'restautant' and 'testairant' instead of restaurant, 'wiater' and 'waiteress' instead of waiter and waitress, and 'aqt' instead of at. These errors reflect a basic lexical range. To move up to the next band, you should expand your vocabulary with accurate, less common lexical items related to employment and food service, and carefully check your spelling and word formation before submitting.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The grammatical range is very limited, relying heavily on simple sentence structures, and frequent errors can cause difficulty for the reader. There are multiple issues with punctuation, capitalization, and verb phrases, such as starting sentences with lowercase letters ('hello,i am...'), incorrect prepositional usage ('dissappoint on you'), and awkward phrasing like 'i am perfect on cooking'. Complex structures are attempted but are faulty. To improve your grammar and punctuation, ensure proper sentence boundaries, capitalize names and the beginning of sentences correctly, and practice standard grammatical patterns for prepositions and verb complements.
