Hi, I saw the advertising for waiter, you gave in the news paper. I'm interested to work as waiter. I've heard a lot about your restaurant and i will love, if i get a chance to work with you. Nowadays, I'm between jobs. However, I have 2 years of experience as waiter. I will attach my the experience letter. I have good communication skills and i know how to deal with customers with high temper. I work with passion and I'm good at what i do. Furthermore, I've been living in this area for almost 10 years and i know this area much better. I know the psychology of people living there and i can handle the situation no matter what happens. Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses the main parts of the task by explaining current employment status, highlighting suitability, and stating interview availability. However, the development of these ideas remains limited. For instance, mentioning good communication skills and the ability to deal with angry customers is stated rather than expanded upon with concrete examples. Furthermore, the length requirement is not met, as the response falls short of the required minimum word count. To reach a higher level, all bullet points need fuller elaboration and better contextual support, alongside ensuring the minimum word count is satisfied.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is some basic organisation in the letter, moving from the purpose of writing to personal background and concluding with interview arrangements. However, the overall progression is somewhat disjointed. Paragraphing is underutilised, with nearly the entire text crammed into a single block of text rather than being divided into logical sections like a standard formal or semi-formal letter. Cohesive devices are basic, repetitive, and at times mechanical, such as relying heavily on simple conjunctions and conversational transitions like 'and' or 'Furthermore'. To improve in this area, the writer should use clear paragraph breaks for different topics and employ a wider, more natural variety of cohesive links to guide the reader smoothly through the text.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is minimally adequate for the task, featuring basic terms such as 'good communication skills', 'experience', and 'newspaper'. There are noticeable lexical errors and awkward collocations, such as 'saw the advertising for waiter, you gave in the news paper' instead of 'advertisement' and 'newspapers'. The tone also wavers between formal application language and informal phrasing like 'i will love, if i get a chance'. To achieve a higher score, the writer needs to incorporate a broader and more precise range of vocabulary, including less common lexical items related to hospitality, while maintaining an appropriate, consistent register.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The text displays a very limited range of sentence structures, relying primarily on simple sentences joined by basic coordinators. When attempting slightly more complex structures, errors emerge, such as punctuation and capitalization oversights ('i' instead of 'I'), incorrect articles ('attach my the experience letter'), and issues with clause structures. Frequent errors in punctuation and basic grammatical patterns cause some difficulty for the reader and reflect a restricted control over sentence mechanics. To progress, the writer must incorporate a healthy mix of complex grammatical structures while improving accuracy in punctuation, articles, and capitalization.
