Student answer (Band 6.0)

DEAR SIR

I am writing this letter formally to apply for the job of waiter.Yesterday, i read the newspaper and saw the advertisement that your restaurant is recruiting some workers for the job of waiter.

Recently, i have completed my food and beverage serving course from COTHMs and also served as a waitor in hotels located in my town including many 3 star restaurants.. Currently, i am seeking for a job in a restaurant having esteem and suitable environment, so i can keep working there regularly and can gain experience in my dedicated feild. As, i am a studnet so after the evening i have to attend my university, i it will be suitable for me to working in the morning shift. Furhtermore, the area in which your restaurant is located, i can easily perform my job there because it is near to my university.

If you are agreed to hire me and approach me for interview, kindly call me for the interview during the mid-day.

Thank you for your attention. I will wait for your response.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The letter addresses the three requested points: you explain that you have completed a food-and-beverage course and are studying at university, describe previous hotel experience, and state that you are available for an interview around midday. These details make your application relevant and understandable. Your suitability is supported by training and work experience, although the claim that you can “easily perform my job” because the restaurant is near your university is less convincing; explain more directly how your service skills or experience would benefit the restaurant. The current-study and morning-shift information is also somewhat unclear, so clarify your schedule and availability. A more conventional application-letter opening and closing would make the purpose and tone more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The information follows a generally sensible order: application purpose, qualifications and current circumstances, then interview availability and thanks. This gives the reader a coherent overall picture. However, most of the central information is packed into one long paragraph, making the shift from experience to study schedule and location harder to follow. The link “Furthermore” introduces the restaurant’s location, but the connection to your suitability is not fully clear. Use separate paragraphs for your application and qualifications, your availability, and your closing. Also make the interview request more direct, and ensure each linking phrase expresses the relationship between ideas rather than simply adding another point.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant vocabulary for an application, including “food and beverage serving course,” “experience,” “restaurant,” and “interview,” so the main message is clear. There are also attempts at more formal or specific wording, such as “dedicated field” and “suitable environment,” but some expressions are unnatural or imprecise: “seeking for a job,” “restaurant having esteem,” and “approach me for interview.” Spelling errors such as “waitor,” “studnet,” and “feild” also reduce accuracy. Aim for natural collocations used in job applications, and check spelling carefully. More precise language about customer service and your relevant skills would make the description of your suitability stronger.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The response includes both simple statements and longer sentences with clauses, for example the sentence explaining your university schedule and preferred shift. The intended meaning is usually recoverable, but some grammatical errors make parts less clear. In “as i am a studnet so,” the paired connectors are not needed; “I it will be suitable for me to working” has an incorrect subject and verb pattern; and “If you are agreed to hire me” uses an incorrect verb form. There are also issues with articles and sentence punctuation, including the run-on construction around your availability. Practise forming clear conditional sentences and use “to” plus the base verb after “suitable for me” in this context.
