To
The Hotel Manager,
Subject: Applying for the job role of waiter
Dear Sir/Madam,
I am writing this letter for applying my new position as a waiter in your restaurant, which I found in advertisement in local newspaper. I'm currently working as a waiter in a three star restaurant but they are not paying good amount though I work for more than 10 hours in one place. From long time I was searching for the better opportunities and I found new role in your restaurant so I'm writing for this opportunity.
As I have been working in these sector for long time, so I have all the experiences that you are looking for and I'm quite hardworking person, so you can barely get any complaints from anyone. I'm looking for this role because I think it will help me to grow my career and I'm free all the time so, whatever time you mentioned for me to work I will accept and come from the next day. I can attend the interview tommorrow if you are ready for providing me this opportunity.
Sincerely,
Peter Dinklage

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The letter addresses all three required points: you explain that you are currently working as a waiter, describe your experience and work ethic, and offer to attend an interview tomorrow. These details make your application relevant and your availability clear. However, some points are less fully developed: “all the experiences that you are looking for” does not specify particular skills, and your suitability would be more convincing with examples such as handling busy periods, serving customers, or working as part of a team. The reason for leaving your current job focuses mainly on pay and long hours; a more professional explanation of what attracts you to this restaurant would strengthen the application. Overall, the purpose is clear, though some supporting details remain general.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The letter follows a broadly sensible order: it introduces the application, gives current employment information, describes suitability, and ends with interview availability. Paragraphing helps separate the opening from the main details, and the closing is appropriate. However, several ideas are crowded into long sentences, particularly the second paragraph, where experience, personal qualities, career goals, working hours, and interview timing run together. Connectors such as “so” are repeated and sometimes make the relationships between ideas feel mechanical. The opening also repeats the purpose of applying. Use shorter sentences and clearer sequencing—for example, give your experience and a specific skill first, then explain your availability—to make the progression easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use enough job-related vocabulary to communicate the main message, including “waiter,” “restaurant,” “experiences,” “hardworking,” and “interview.” However, the range is limited, and several noticeable word-choice or collocation problems make the letter sound less natural or professional. Phrases such as “applying my new position,” “paying good amount,” and “in one place” do not express the intended meanings idiomatically. “From long time” and “better opportunities” are also imprecise in this context. Spelling is generally understandable, though “tommorrow” is incorrect. Aim for precise application language, such as describing relevant customer-service skills and referring to your current working conditions in a neutral, professional way.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response attempts both simple and longer sentence forms, and the reader can generally understand the intended message. However, errors occur across sentence patterns, articles, prepositions, and agreement. For example, “I am writing this letter for applying” has an incorrect verb pattern, while “in advertisement” needs an article. In “As I have been working in these sector for long time, so…,” the demonstrative and noun do not agree, an article is missing, and the opening clause is awkwardly linked to “so.” The sentence beginning “I'm looking for this role because…” also joins several separate ideas, making control less secure. Practise accurate verb patterns and article use, and divide long sentences into shorter, complete statements.
