Student answer (Band 5.5)
Dear Sir.
I have seen the advertisement of job for waiters and waitresses for your restaurant "The Grand Desire" in local newspaper. As per the requirements mentioned in the adversitement, I believe that I am best suited for this job. I have the experience of 4 years in this field and I also know to handle the costumers. I am currently doing job in the restaurant located near your restaurant. due to low income, I decided to work somewhere else, then, I saw your ad in the newspaper. I am quite inspired by the weekly wage and facilities which will be provided by your side. I want to join your restaurant team, therefore writing this letter for your observation. As, I am a student also, so I can work for 20 hours a week. I shall be a best option for your restaurant. I am available for interview at any time.
Thanking you in anticipation.
Yours sincerely,
Umar Tauqeer

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three requested points: you explain that you are currently working at a nearby restaurant, give four years’ experience and customer-handling ability as evidence of suitability, and state that you are available for an interview at any time. These details make the application relevant and establish a clear purpose. The response also includes a suitable greeting and sign-off. To make the application more convincing and complete, develop your suitability with a specific example of your duties or a skill such as taking orders or resolving customer concerns. The reason for leaving your current job and your interest in the advertised wage are mentioned, but could be expressed more professionally and linked more clearly to why you want this particular role. Some points are therefore less fully developed than others.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The letter follows a broadly sensible order: it introduces the advertisement, gives your experience and current situation, and ends with your availability and a sign-off. However, most information is presented in one continuous paragraph, so the reader has little visual guidance through the different purposes of the letter. Several links are also mechanical or awkward, such as “therefore writing this letter” and “As, I am a student also, so”. Organise the content into short paragraphs—for example, one for your current work and application, one for your suitability, and one for interview arrangements. Use clearer transitions and avoid combining “as” and “so” for the same relationship. This would create a more consistent progression and make the letter easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use relevant vocabulary for an employment application, including “experience,” “weekly wage,” “facilities,” and “interview,” and the reader can understand the main message. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, which limits precision: “advertisement of job,” “handle the costumers,” and “for your observation” do not express the intended ideas naturally. There are also spelling errors, notably “adversitement” and “costumers.” Aim for standard application phrases and check spelling carefully. More precise language about your restaurant duties and customer service would also help demonstrate suitability rather than relying on general claims. The vocabulary is adequate for the topic, but errors are noticeable and sometimes make the reader pause.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and longer sentence forms, and the main information is generally understandable. Some grammatical errors remain, particularly in articles, sentence construction, and punctuation. For example, “I am a student also, so I can work” would be more naturally structured as “I am also a student, so I can work,” while “I shall be a best option” needs the article “the” or a different construction. The sentence beginning “due to low income” starts with a lowercase letter after a full stop, and “As, I am … so” has faulty punctuation and linking. Review article use and make sure each sentence has a clear, correctly punctuated structure. These issues do not prevent understanding, but they reduce accuracy.
