- say when you can attend an interview.
Student answer (Band 5.5)
To, the restaurant manager.
Hope you are doing well,
I just saw advertisement in todays newspaper where you mentioned that you are looking for a waiter in your restaurant.
At the moment, i'm doing a waiter job in sydney hotel. I have been doing this job for last 2 years but due to some personal reasons I want to resign from this job. And I would like to do a job in your restaurant as a waiter.
As I also have an exprience in this field I will definitely do the same in your organization also.
The exprience and expertise I gain from this work for example how to deal with customers would be beneficial for your restaurant.
Furthermore, i'm available to attend interview at anytime whenever you want. As currently i'm doing job I will take a break from my from.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You address the main purpose by applying for the waiter position, explaining that you currently work at a hotel, describing two years of experience, and offering to attend an interview. These details are relevant, but some parts are only partly developed: “how to deal with customers” is a useful example, yet you could explain more specifically how this skill makes you suitable, such as handling busy periods or responding to requests. The interview arrangements are also unclear because “at anytime whenever you want” is not a definite availability, and the final sentence about taking a break is incomplete in meaning. A more direct, professional application with clearer details would make the response more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The letter follows a generally understandable order: you introduce the vacancy, describe your current work and experience, then discuss an interview and provide contact details. Paragraph breaks help separate these points, and connectors such as “Furthermore” show an attempt to link ideas. However, progression is sometimes weakened by repetition, particularly the repeated statement that you want a waiter job, and some links are unclear. For example, “As currently i'm doing job I will take a break from my from” does not clearly connect your current employment to interview availability. Use a conventional opening and closing, and organise the suitability details together before giving a specific interview time.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
Your vocabulary is sufficient to communicate the basic application, with relevant terms such as “advertisement,” “experience,” “expertise,” and “customers.” However, the range is limited and several phrases are repetitive or imprecise, including “doing a waiter job” and “do a job in your restaurant.” Some word choices and spelling errors reduce the professional impression, notably “exprience” and “todays.” “The experience and expertise I gain from this work” also uses an awkward combination of words. Aim for more natural employment vocabulary and accurate spelling, for example, describe yourself as working as a waiter and refer to customer-service skills gained in the role.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You use mostly simple sentences, with some attempts to combine ideas using “but,” “as,” and “where.” The main message remains understandable, but errors in sentence formation and grammatical patterns are noticeable. For example, “I have been doing this job for last 2 years” needs an article and a more natural time expression, while “I will take a break from my from” is incomplete and difficult to interpret. The opening fragments, “To, the restaurant manager” and “Hope you are doing well,” are also not formed as a conventional letter greeting. Practise accurate articles, complete clauses, and punctuation, while adding a few controlled complex sentences to explain your experience and availability.
