Student answer (Band 5.0)
Dear respected sir,
I am writing a letter because while resding a newspaper i got that you need a waiter for your restaurant.
I am actually a student in the Uk, to manage my expensives and to demonstrates my continuity in study i would really want to do a part-time job in restaurant like this one.
I already have a certificate and practical knowledge about this job so that' why i am trying to pursue it. I would be very puntual and would illustrates consistency in this job if you kindly give me a permission of doing this job. I really into it. Because, if i can't find any reliable job i would have to skip my education. I am totally depent upon this job. Additionally i would try my best not to do anything wrong with any customers and try to keep a calm environment.
i am looking forward to hearing from you.
Thank you.
Best regards,
TAHA ABDULLAH.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
The letter is relevant to applying for the waiter position and gives some information about your current situation: you say you are a student in the UK seeking part-time work. You also mention a certificate and practical knowledge, which begins to explain your suitability. However, the task is only partially addressed: the reasons for hiring you remain general, and the statement that you would avoid doing anything wrong with customers does not clearly demonstrate service skills. Most importantly, you do not say when you are available for an interview. The personal financial pressure in “I am totally dependent upon this job” also takes space without strengthening the application. Add specific experience or qualities and give a clear interview date or availability.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The message follows a broadly understandable order: it introduces the application, explains your current studies, gives reasons you may suit the role, and closes politely. This provides some organisation, and the reader can identify the main purpose. However, the progression is not consistently clear because several ideas are crowded into one paragraph, while the final paragraph is very brief and does not include interview availability. The link “Because” begins a sentence that depends on the previous idea, and “Additionally” introduces a point that is not clearly connected to your suitability. Use separate paragraphs for your current situation, relevant skills, and interview arrangements, and connect each point directly to the application.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some vocabulary relevant to the application, including “part-time job,” “certificate,” “practical knowledge,” and “customers.” This is enough to communicate the general purpose, but the range is limited and several word choices or spellings make the letter less professional. For example, “expensives” and “continuity in study” do not express your intended meaning naturally, while “I really into it” is informal and incomplete as a phrase. “Puntual” is also misspelled. Aim for precise employment language, such as describing customer-service experience, reliability, and availability, rather than repeating general claims about wanting the job. Check spelling and collocations before sending a formal application.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response includes some attempts to combine ideas, for example, “to manage my expenses … I would really want to do a part-time job,” but the range of sentence structures is limited and complex attempts are often faulty. Errors occur in verb forms and sentence construction, as in “to demonstrates” and “would illustrates”; the conditional “if I can't find any reliable job I would have to skip my education” also needs more accurate tense and article use. The fragment “Because, if I can't find…” is not correctly attached to the preceding sentence, and punctuation around it is awkward. These errors sometimes make the intended relationships harder to follow. Practise accurate simple sentences first, then build longer sentences with correctly formed clauses.
