Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Restaurant General Manager,

Hope everything is going great.

I have gone through an advertisement in DAWN newspaper about the vacancy waiters and waitresses. I am sending this email to demonstrate my interest in a waiter position. I am currenly working at Serena Hotel Islamabad as a server with a best server awad holder and I have 4 years of dedicated experience in the hospitality field as a waiter in different organizations. I have also completed my diploma in hospitality management and worked previously in one of your partner restaurant called KOH where I used to be part of the opening team. Therefore, I found myself a perfect candidate for this position. I will be available for an interview on Tuesday and Thursady between 9 am to 11 am. I am also available for an online meeting and can join immediately. T

I am hopeful in getting a positive response.

Regards

XYZ

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address the main requirements by explaining your current role at Serena Hotel, outlining relevant experience and training, and giving Tuesday and Thursday interview times. Your application is clearly relevant, and the reference to having worked at KOH adds useful evidence of familiarity with the restaurant group. However, some points are asserted rather than developed: “a best server award holder” is unclear, and you could explain what skills or achievements make you suitable, such as customer service, teamwork, or handling busy shifts. The interview availability is specific, but adding the dates or confirming whether the times are local would make it more practical. A more complete, clearly supported account of your suitability would strengthen the letter.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The information follows a sensible overall order: you identify the vacancy, describe your current work and background, then state your availability and close politely. Linking expressions such as “Therefore” help show the relationship between your experience and your application. However, the response is presented as one dense paragraph, so the reader has to process several different points together. Divide it into short paragraphs—for example, one for your application and current role, one for your qualifications and suitability, and one for interview arrangements. Some connections are also abrupt: the award and four years of experience are packed into the same sentence, while the final “T” interrupts the closing. Clearer paragraphing and smoother transitions would make the progression easier to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of job-related vocabulary, including “server,” “dedicated experience,” “hospitality management,” “opening team,” and “interview.” These choices make your background understandable and relevant. There are, however, several inaccurate or unnatural expressions that reduce precision: “vacancy waiters and waitresses” does not clearly describe the advertised role, and “a best server award holder” is not a natural way to present an award. “Positive response” is understandable but generic for a formal application. Check spelling and word forms as well, including “currenly,” “awad,” and “Thursady.” More natural collocations and precise descriptions of your achievements would help you communicate your suitability more professionally.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including the sentence beginning “I am currently working…” and the clause “where I used to be part of the opening team.” The main message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors affect clarity. For example, “I have gone through an advertisement … about the vacancy waiters and waitresses” needs a clearer noun phrase and grammatical connection, while “I am currenly working … as a server with a best server award holder” has an unclear structure. The sentence beginning “I am also available” is followed by a stray “T,” which disrupts punctuation and presentation. Aim to separate long sentences and check articles, sentence boundaries, and clause structure before submitting.
