Student answer (Band 6.0)

Greetings Mr or Madam,

I am reaching out for the current open position of as waiter at your restaurant, I am currently doing my second year of masters degree in Hospitality and Tourism at the renowned IHEC Carthage. And I am interested in your offer especially in a classy and renowned restaurant such as yours.

I do believe that I could really be in help, and ensure a solid customer service from my end. I've had a similar experience before as a waiter in a local Lounge. And always had a good reputation and positive feedback fro mthe clients' end always. I have worked as a cook assistant always in the summers helping in the cooking process and as well working as a waiter and delivering the plates to the attendees while ensuring coordination and organized workflow.

I would be available as of tomorrow Monday morning, to attend the interview where we can discuss more the role, the responsibilities and the offer. And it would be a great honor to get acecpted and start such experience.

Thanks,

Seif Eddine Ben Belahssen,

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address all three requested points: you explain that you are studying for a master’s degree, describe previous waiter and kitchen-assistant experience, and offer a time for an interview. The experience with customers and coordinating service is relevant and gives the application a clear purpose. However, some points are less fully developed: you could explain more specifically how your studies or past work have prepared you for this restaurant, and clarify the exact interview date and time rather than saying “tomorrow Monday morning.” The closing also expresses enthusiasm, but a more direct statement of your availability and interest would make the application more complete and professional.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a coherent overall arrangement: it introduces the application, gives relevant experience, and ends with interview availability and a closing. Paragraphing helps distinguish these stages. Some connections between ideas are less smooth, however. The first paragraph combines several points in a long sentence, while the second moves from customer service to lounge work and then to summer kitchen duties without clearly showing how these experiences relate. Repeated use of “And” to begin sentences also makes the progression feel somewhat mechanical. Use clearer transitions and separate the different examples of experience so the reader can follow your qualifications more easily.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of job-related vocabulary, including “customer service,” “cook assistant,” “responsibilities,” and “organized workflow.” These choices help communicate your experience and interest. There are also attempts at more formal or less common expressions, such as “renowned” and “attendees,” though some wording is inaccurate or unnatural for a job application. For example, “be in help” and “from my end” do not express your meaning idiomatically, and “classy” is less suitable than a more professional description. Spelling slips such as “fro mthe” and “acecpted” also affect polish. Aim for precise, natural collocations and proofread carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more extended sentence forms, and the main message remains understandable. However, some errors in sentence structure, articles, and punctuation reduce accuracy. The opening contains a comma splice: “I am reaching out … at your restaurant, I am currently doing…”; this should be divided or joined with an appropriate conjunction. “As waiter” needs an article, and “second year of masters degree” needs clearer article and possessive forms. The sentence beginning “And always had a good reputation” is incomplete because it lacks an explicit subject and finite verb. Review sentence boundaries and article use, while retaining your attempts to combine related ideas.
