Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Manager,

I hope you are doing well. Recently, I have read an advertisement for waiters. I am very much interested in this position.

Currently, I am working at a restaurant as a waiter. I have been working here since 2019. I have 5 years of experience in this sector. Besides this, I am pursuing an honours degree from Savar University, and my subject is Tourism & Hospitality Management. I am fluent in English. For this, I can communicate with your foreign delegates. Especially, I have good communication and problem-solving skills. If needed, I would solve this problem easily. I can do every task professionally and very quickly. No one can give any kind of complaint against me. I can give an interview anytime. For this reason, you can call me anytime if you think I am the perfect choice in this position.

I will be very grateful if you give me this opportunity to help your organisation.

Sincerely

Md Rahat Hossain

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The letter addresses all three requested points: you explain that you work as a waiter and are studying Tourism and Hospitality Management, describe relevant experience and skills, and say you are available for an interview at any time. These details make your application relevant and give the reader a clear sense of your suitability. The experience since 2019 and your degree are particularly useful supporting points. To develop the response further, explain more specifically how your current duties or studies prepare you for this restaurant—for example, by mentioning customer service, handling orders, or resolving a particular type of problem. The claim that “No one can give any kind of complaint against me” is also too absolute; a more measured example would make your case more convincing and professional.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The information follows a generally sensible order: you introduce your interest, describe your current work and studies, present your skills, and finish with interview availability and thanks. This makes the letter easy to follow overall. However, most of the content is placed in one long paragraph, so the separate purposes of the letter are not clearly signposted. Divide it into short paragraphs for your application, qualifications, and availability. Some links also feel mechanical or unclear: “Besides this” and “For this reason” do not always show a precise relationship between the ideas that follow. The repeated use of “I” at the start of sentences adds to the list-like effect. More varied transitions and clearer paragraphing would create smoother progression.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough relevant vocabulary to communicate the main points, including “experience,” “communication,” “problem-solving skills,” and “Tourism & Hospitality Management.” These terms help establish your suitability for hospitality work. However, some expressions are imprecise or unnatural for a formal job application. “Foreign delegates” is not the usual term for restaurant customers, and “I can do every task professionally and very quickly” is broad rather than specific. “Give me this opportunity to help your organisation” also sounds less natural than a direct expression of interest in contributing to the restaurant. Aim for precise hospitality language and avoid absolute claims such as “No one can give any kind of complaint against me.” This would make your vocabulary more flexible and professional.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

The letter uses a mix of simple sentences and some more developed forms, and the main message remains clear. For example, “I have been working here since 2019” uses the present perfect continuous appropriately, while “If needed, I would solve this problem easily” shows an attempt at a conditional structure. Some grammatical choices are less accurate or natural, however. “I have read an advertisement” would usually be expressed as “I saw an advertisement,” and “I can give an interview” should be “I can attend an interview.” The sentence beginning “For this, I can communicate…” has an unclear reference, and the conditional “If needed” does not connect clearly to a specific situation. Continue practising natural tense and conditional patterns, and check punctuation and sentence links.
