Student answer (Band 5.0)

Nowdays, most of the young people after completing their school prefer to take a break and want to gain some kind of experience in practical field while some prefer to travel across the world. That experience might be helpful for them when they continue education. In my opinion, I do not agree with this, because it affects people's studies, lack of concentration and change of mind.

Firstly, after finishing school, people chose to take a break from studying and want to try something new, Job experience or traveling. This can lead to many disadvantages like affecting people studies, because people get lazy when they have a break in their study. They get used to work and studing in free time seems hard for them. At the same time most of the people lack concentration in studies, they can study properly, their daily life routine changed.

Moreover, majority of the time it changes people's mind. People when start to earn little bit they think that enough for them they do not need to study, so they ended up leaving school completely. Followed by this, the experience they gain from job is not required in their field of study most of the time. So this is totally waste of the In conclusion to that, I disagree that a gap year is benefits for students. Taking break after finishing school is not good in most of the cases, but sometimes if having financial issue, students prefer to do part-time jobs which is good thing to support studies. Moreover it makes you lazy.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

Your position is stated clearly in the introduction and conclusion: you disagree that a gap year benefits students. You also give relevant reasons, including reduced concentration, becoming accustomed to earning, and work experience not matching a student’s future field. However, the response addresses the topic only partially because these claims are mostly asserted rather than explained or supported with a specific example. The discussion also focuses almost entirely on possible disadvantages and does not consider how travel or work might develop skills that help students return to education. The point about part-time work for students with financial difficulties is relevant but arrives late and is not connected clearly to your main argument. Develop fewer points in more depth and explain the circumstances behind your overall view.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

There is a basic essay structure, with an introduction, body discussion and concluding opinion, and signposts such as “Firstly” and “Moreover” help show that another point is coming. However, the progression between ideas is not always clear: the discussion moves from study habits to concentration and then to earning without explaining how each point connects. Some linking phrases are awkward or inaccurate, including “Followed by this,” and the conclusion begins before the preceding sentence has been completed (“So this is totally waste of the…”). The final paragraph combines the conclusion, a qualification about financial problems and a repeated claim about laziness. Use separate, focused paragraphs and make each one develop a single reason, with clear links between the claim and its explanation.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate your main ideas, including “work experience,” “concentration,” “financial issue” and “part-time jobs.” There are also attempts to express more specific ideas, such as students becoming used to work. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are unnatural or imprecise, which can make the reader pause. Examples include “practical field,” “people studies,” “changes people’s mind,” and “waste of the” in the unfinished sentence. Spelling errors such as “Nowdays” and “studing” are also noticeable. Build a bank of accurate phrases for discussing education and employment, and check spelling and word forms during revision. Prefer precise expressions over repeating “people” and “study.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response attempts both simple and longer sentences, using clauses with “because” and “when,” as in the explanation about students becoming accustomed to work. However, complex sentences are often faulty, and errors occur frequently enough to make some parts difficult to follow. For example, “they can study properly, their daily life routine changed” joins ideas without a clear grammatical connection, while “People when start to earn” has an incomplete clause structure. There are also problems with agreement and verb forms in “people chose” and “it changes people’s mind,” as well as missing or incorrect articles and plurals. The sentence beginning “So this is totally waste…” is incomplete. Practise building accurate subject–verb–object sentences, then combine them with one clear subordinate clause.
