Student answer (Band 6.0)

Students often get tired from hectic schedule of schools . So, they take gap year between higher secondary school and university to get work experience or yo see the world. People believe it helps them when they return to studies.

I believe if they are taking this break to learn any skill it is appreciated. In contrast if they are thinking to take gap for entertaining and travel purposes it would not be beneficial for them in future.

In school students are not so mature they easily get distracted from many things. If they get a gap year there are several disadvantages for that . First of all , They would lost their regular routine . It will make them lazy . They would spent most of their time in useless things like scrolling social media reels and watching screens. They would also lose their determination. There are highly chances that they would involve in vulgar activities . To take a gap would affect their creativity skills. It would be very difficult for them to return towards academics again.

For instance , my cousin atzaz was topper in school . He took a gap after school to get rest from studies stress and hectic routine. But in that time he involved in different habits like smoking and drugs. Unfortunately he had to quit his university.

If anyone is taking year out to learn a skill it is acceptable. skills can be used in any part of life. Learning skills engage a person so he can not involve in wrong activities.

i conclude if anyone is taking gap year for skill learning i am totally standing with him . But if anyone is doing for travel or fun i am stongly disagr

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. You have provided relevant arguments regarding the potential downsides of a gap year, such as the loss of academic routine and the risk of negative influences, supported by a personal example. However, the development is somewhat limited. The argument regarding 'skill learning' is mentioned but not fully explored in terms of how it specifically benefits the individual upon returning to education. To reach a higher band, ensure that all parts of the prompt are explored with equal depth, focusing on the link between the gap year experience and academic performance.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your argument. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or repetitive (e.g., 'First of all', 'In contrast'). There are instances where the transition between ideas feels abrupt, such as the sudden shift to the personal example about your cousin. Additionally, the conclusion is incomplete, which impacts the overall flow and structure of the essay. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence that connects back to your main thesis.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to express your ideas clearly. You use some topic-specific terms like 'academic routine' and 'determination'. However, there are several instances of awkward phrasing and word choice errors, such as 'highly chances' instead of 'a high chance' and 'return towards academics' instead of 'return to academic studies'. The range of vocabulary is somewhat limited, relying on basic descriptors. To achieve a higher score, try to incorporate more precise collocations and academic vocabulary related to education and personal development.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow of reading. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'They would lost'), article usage, and incorrect prepositional phrases. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with spacing around commas and periods. While the meaning is generally clear, the frequency of these errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focus on proofreading for basic tense consistency and ensuring that complex sentences are constructed accurately.
