Student answer (Band 5.0)
In recent years, many young people choose to take a year out between finishing secondary school and starting university in order to gain work experience or to travel. The experience of non-academic life this offers and many benefits the individual when they return to education has becomes a widely debated issues among people of different backgrounds.I strongly agree this statement for the reasons discussed below.
First and foremost, one of the main reasons in other young children a take a year out between end school and start the university in order to to gain work experience or travel it is a good sign in young children work experience is very important in life and they many benefits when he return to study. It is clear example of this can be seen my younger brother when one year out between finishing school and starting university in order to gain work pizza made experience. This work is very good work in life There fore i should every people should when a year out between finishing school and starting university in order to gain experience because work experience is very important in every people life.
If people one year free he not work experience or to travel ha is big loss in life, and they say work experience is not important in life and the experience of non-academic life this offers many benefits the individual when they return to education.
In conclusion, for the reasons outlined above, I firmly believe that work experience and travel is very important young people.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses the prompt by stating a clear position in favor of taking a gap year. However, the development of ideas is very limited and repetitive. The arguments provided are superficial and lack sufficient explanation or logical expansion. For instance, the mention of the author's brother is an attempt at an example, but it is poorly articulated and does not effectively support the main argument. The essay relies heavily on repeating the prompt's language rather than exploring the benefits of non-academic life in a meaningful way. To improve, you should focus on developing distinct, well-reasoned points in separate paragraphs.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the logical flow is weak. The transition between ideas is often abrupt or confusing, such as the sudden shift in the third paragraph. Cohesive devices are used in a very mechanical and repetitive manner, often leading to awkward phrasing (e.g., 'First and foremost', 'In conclusion'). Referencing is frequently unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the progression of your argument. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear, singular focus would significantly enhance the coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive. You frequently reuse phrases from the prompt, such as 'take a year out between finishing school and starting university' and 'gain work experience'. There is little evidence of a range of vocabulary or the ability to use less common lexical items. Some word choices are inaccurate or inappropriate, such as 'work pizza made experience', which obscures the meaning. To achieve a higher band score, you need to demonstrate a wider range of vocabulary and use it with more precision, avoiding the constant repetition of the same phrases.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that often impede communication. There are significant issues with sentence structure, subject-verb agreement, and word order (e.g., 'I strongly agree this statement', 'he not work experience'). Many sentences are fragmented or run-on, and there is a lack of variety in sentence structures. The frequent misuse of articles and prepositions further complicates the text. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction and proofreading for common errors like verb tense consistency and subject-verb agreement before attempting more complex structures.
