Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.5

The response addresses the prompt by expressing an opinion on taking a gap year, noting that it provides valuable non-academic experiences, travel, and work opportunities. However, the development of ideas is limited and somewhat repetitive, relying heavily on personal anecdotes rather than fully extended arguments. The position is stated, but the support lacks depth and structure. The response meets the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, allowing for a score at Band 4.5 based on the limited and partially developed treatment of the topic.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0

The text is divided into paragraphs, but the overall logical organisation and progression are weak. Sentences are often disjointed, and cohesive devices are either missing or used inaccurately, as seen in expressions like 'First; In my oppine' and 'Finally many young person'. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the mechanical flow hinders the reader's ability to easily follow the progression of ideas. These features align with the descriptors for Band 4.0, where information is not arranged coherently enough to ensure smooth progression.

Lexical Resource — Band 4.0

The vocabulary used is very basic and heavily repetitive, featuring numerous spelling and word-choice errors, such as 'complet' for completing, 'srarting' for starting, 'exprince' for experience, and 'tridintion' for tradition. The range of vocabulary is limited, and these errors frequently strain the reader and impede clear communication throughout the text. This performance corresponds to Band 4.0, characterised by basic, repetitive vocabulary and frequent errors that strain the reader.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0

The response displays a very limited range of grammatical structures, consisting mainly of simple sentences with frequent attempts at complex sentences that are almost always faulty. There are persistent errors in basic punctuation, capitalization, subject-verb agreement, and tense usage, such as 'Many young student's pick' and 'In my family my brother go to foran.' These frequent errors cause significant difficulty for the reader and distort meaning at times, placing the grammar clearly at Band 4.0.
