Student answer (Band 5.0)

In recent years, the issue of whether young people take a year out between finishing school and starting university or continue study has sparked considerable debate. Many young people argue that they choose to take a year out for gain work experience or to travel. I firmly argue that adults should take a year out. This essaay will substantiate this view by discussing benifits of work experience and travel.

One of the main reasons why adults should take a year out after finising school and starting university is that work experience. For instance, when a young individuals take employment in a job fields, he may gained several experience. In addition, as a reasult, adults may be more responsible how he used money when he will be finansial independent by doing work. Besides, they can consumed several types of skills that will be affactable in future. Therefore, it is evident that if young people take a year out for work experience they will be gained it.

Another significant justification lies in the fact that traveling several areas. We should truly believe that as a humans we need some relaxation. In my perspective, i always prefer visiting several greeneary areas that can be finished your all tairedness. For instance, adults when take a year out and travel several kinds of place, they can be relaxed for all disappiontness and explore different culture and new places. As a reasult, young people will be learned different cultures and refreashed their own mind. Therefore, it is the best way to explore new cultures and fresh their own mind.

In conclusion, although some people argur that it will be wasteed time but in my opinion it will be more benifitial due to work experience and explore different culture by travelling. Therefore, this perspective appears more rational and suntainable.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt by discussing both the benefits of work experience and travel during a gap year, presenting a clear overall position in favor of taking a year out. However, the development of ideas remains somewhat superficial and repetitive. For instance, the discussion on work experience states that an individual may gain 'several experience' without expanding deeply on specific professional or developmental outcomes. Similarly, the travel section relies on general notions of relaxation and cultural exploration rather than fully extending the argument with concrete examples. Key terms from the prompt, such as 'young people', are sometimes inconsistently referred to as 'adults'. Despite these limitations, all parts of the task are addressed, and a clear position is maintained throughout, fitting the criteria for Band 5.5 to 6.0, settling best at a Band 5.5 due to under-developed support.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is divided into an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion, showing a clear structural layout. Cohesive devices are employed to connect ideas, such as 'In addition', 'Besides', and 'Therefore'. However, the referencing and logical progression are frequently faulty or mechanical. For example, the sentence 'One of the main reasons why adults should take a year out after finising school and starting university is that work experience' lacks a predicate verb, making the logical link awkward. Furthermore, cohesive phrases are sometimes overused or repetitive, as seen with multiple consecutive sentences beginning with 'Therefore' or 'As a reasult'. Paragraphing is present, but internal cohesion is hindered by awkward phrasing and referencing errors. These features align closely with Band 5.0 descriptors.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The student attempts a range of vocabulary suitable for the topic, including terms like 'substantiate', 'financial independent', 'disappointment', and 'sustainable'. However, there are numerous lexical inaccuracies and spelling errors throughout the text, such as 'benifits', 'finising', 'reasult', 'finansial', 'affactable', 'consumed' (likely meaning consumed or acquired), 'greeneary', 'tairedness', 'disappiontness', 'refreashed', 'argur', 'wasteed', and 'suntainable'. While the vocabulary is adequate to convey the basic meaning of the arguments, the high frequency of word-choice and spelling errors places this performance firmly in Band 5.0, where noticeable lexical inadequacies cause difficulty for the reader.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as conditional structures ('if young people take a year out... they will be gained it') and subordinate clauses. However, grammatical control is weak, with frequent errors that impede comprehension. Examples include verb tense and voice errors ('they will be gained it'), fragment sentences ('is that work experience'), incorrect pronoun usage ('how he used money when he will be finansial independent by doing work'), and repetitive structural patterns. Punctuation is also erratic, with missing spaces after periods (e.g., 'experience. For instance'). The combination of a limited range of accurate structures and frequent basic errors points clearly to a Band 5.0 level.
