Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

You address the general topic by describing a friend who took time before university to explore career options, and the example is relevant to the value of gaining experience. However, the response does not clearly state how far you agree or disagree with the claim that non-academic life benefits students when they return to education. Most of the account focuses on choosing between engineering and medicine, rather than explaining benefits to later study, and the ideas are only minimally developed. The response also contains 243 words, so it is 7 words below the required minimum; the 13 words copied from the prompt were not counted. To strengthen the response, state your position directly and explain specific benefits, such as greater motivation or clearer academic goals, with a developed example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

There is a basic sequence in the story: Sara finishes school, explores two careers, and makes a choice. This gives the reader some sense of progression. However, the response is presented as one long block, without clear paragraphing to separate your position, reasons, example, and conclusion. Connections between ideas are often unclear, and transitions such as “On the anther hand” and “Fenliy” do not reliably guide the reader. Several questions and details interrupt the main point, while the opening sentence is incomplete. Organise the essay into distinct paragraphs and use clear links to show how each reason supports your view. A brief conclusion should return explicitly to the question.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.0

Your vocabulary is basic and repetitive, which limits how precisely you can explain the topic. Words such as “work,” “want,” and “also” recur, and several spelling errors make parts of the account difficult to understand, including “Engenniring,” “trivel,” and “specialization.” Some topic-related terms, such as “architect” and “chemist,” are relevant, but they are not used to develop a wider discussion of the benefits of a gap year. Aim to learn accurate forms and collocations for education and personal development, such as “gain practical experience,” “clarify career goals,” and “return to university with greater motivation.” This would make your ideas clearer and more appropriate for an academic essay.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.0

The response relies mainly on simple clauses, and frequent errors in sentence structure and verb forms sometimes distort meaning. For example, “she do not now what she want to be” has problems with auxiliary use and agreement, while “she took a year between the school and unviersity to take a side” is difficult to interpret grammatically. The opening also begins with a fragment, and punctuation is inconsistent, especially around questions embedded in sentences. There are attempts to connect ideas with “after that” and “On the anther hand,” but control is limited. Practise accurate simple sentences first, then build longer sentences using clear subordinate clauses and consistent past-tense forms for the story.
