Student answer (Band 6.5)
After finishing their high school, a number of young generation prefer to do a job or travel to a new destination for one year before appearing in university. It is beneficial for them to rejoin the studies with new experiences and skills. I strongly agree with this strategy as it enables students to take a look on the requiements of professional life, provides them with essential skills, and also helps them decide their future career.
First of all, job experience before university helps leaners decide their future. Professional experience assist students greatly to understand how things really work in their relevant fields, enabling them to take prudent decisions in the future.
For example, if a student wants to study economics, by doing a job in a company and experiencing the work environment, he can decide whether this field is suitable for him or not. Additionally, a student can learn new skills regarding his future career which will contribute to his success in the respective field. Hence, work experience may prepare pupils for their future studies in university.
Also, travelling to various destinations and experiencing new cultures, traditions and lifestyles tend to develop social and communication skills in young generation. These skills are essential for their future development because when they visit new places and people the may become more open-minded. Ultimately, they will interact with people form different backgrounds more effectively which is a positive development for their future university life. Moreover, travelling also broaden the knowledge regarding various professional fields which students were unawar before, widening their choices for their future careers.
In conclusion, work and travel experience have positive impacts on the future of young generation in terms of real-life experience of jobs and bringing more choices for their career. Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
Your position is clear from the introduction: you strongly agree that a year away can help young people, and the conclusion maintains this view. You address both work experience and travel, giving relevant explanations and examples. The economics student example makes the career-choice point concrete, while the discussion of meeting people from different backgrounds explains how travel may support university life. This fits a response that addresses the task and extends its ideas. To strengthen the development further, explain more specifically how these experiences improve students’ academic engagement or performance after they return; the link is sometimes asserted rather than demonstrated, particularly in the claim that travel broadens knowledge of professional fields.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The essay has a clear overall progression: an introduction states your view, two body paragraphs develop work and travel benefits, and a conclusion restates the position. Signposting such as “First of all,” “Also,” “Additionally,” and “In conclusion” helps readers follow the argument, and the example is placed appropriately within the work-experience paragraph. The organisation is logical throughout. Some linking is a little mechanical, however, and several sentences repeat the idea of future career benefits. You could improve flow by varying transitions and making the relationship between points more explicit—for example, connect the communication skills gained through travel directly to collaboration in university study. Check references such as “these skills” so their meaning remains precise.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “professional life,” “prudent decisions,” “open-minded,” and “communication skills.” These choices help express the main ideas, and meaning remains clear despite some inaccurate or unnatural wording. There are several word-choice, collocation, and spelling problems, such as “take a look on the requirements,” “professional experience assist,” “people form different backgrounds,” and “unawar.” Some phrases are also imprecise, including “achieve greater in their life.” These errors keep the vocabulary from showing consistently flexible and precise control. Aim to learn common word partnerships and proofread spelling; for instance, use “understand the demands of working life” and “people from different backgrounds.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex structures, including conditional phrasing (“if a student wants to study economics… he can decide”) and clauses explaining consequences. Most sentences communicate the intended meaning, and the errors do not generally obstruct understanding. Some grammatical inaccuracies remain: “a number of young generation prefer” has a number/agreement and article problem; “Professional experience assist” needs subject–verb agreement; and “the may become” is missing a pronoun. There are also issues with articles and plural forms, as in “in university” and “new places and people.” The range is developing, but accuracy is not yet consistent across the more complex sentences. Review agreement, articles, and pronoun use, then proofread each sentence for a complete grammatical structure.
