Student answer (Band 6.0)

A wide range of younger youth prefer to take a break of one year between completing secondary education and the initial stage of universities. The generation often prefers this gap so thay can travel or gain some experience for their future. Mostly, this experience profits the students when they return back to their education and this experince alignes with their studies.

As far as I am concerned, a mere of 70% students benefit themselves with this gap. Along with travelling, they gain knowledge and practice for the upcoming challenges. The main reson behind this is that they are motivated and they devote themselves to gain respect in their particular fields. They want to build good reputation for themselves and achieve excellent grades in universities. They work smartly and examine different methods on which they are gonna work.

The remaining 30% students choose a wrong field in future which results in lower grades and the work expeience they had gained do not benefit them at all. Some students do not pay attention on the work experience and they just hangout all the day. Such lazy buffers do not achieve their aim and they dont perform well in the future.

My friend took a break after completing his FSC medical and joined a hospital for 8 months. He worked their as a male nurse and he gained a lot of work experience. At first, he got confused but he stayed consistent and gained all the experiene. Now, he knows how to apply drips, how to inject and he knows about different kinds of medicines. He is the top ranking student of his class and he built a good reputation among his classmates.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your response addresses the topic and gives a clear, generally supportive position: you argue that a gap year can help students, especially through practical experience, while acknowledging that some may not benefit. The hospital example is relevant and gives concrete support, including your friend learning to administer injections and identify medicines. However, the discussion of travel is only briefly mentioned, and the claim that “70%” benefit and “30%” choose the wrong field is presented without explanation or evidence. The point about students who “just hangout” is also asserted rather than developed. To strengthen the response, explain more fully how non-academic experience improves readiness for university, and qualify or support broad claims with reasoning or examples.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, reasons in favour, a contrasting point, and a personal example. This gives the reader a recognisable progression, and phrases such as “The remaining 30%” signal a shift to a different view. However, the links between some ideas are mechanical or unclear. For example, the claim that students “choose a wrong field” does not clearly follow from the preceding point about taking a gap year, and the final example is not explicitly connected back to your overall argument. Some sentences also repeat the idea of gaining experience or building a reputation. Use clearer links to show cause and effect, and end by drawing together how the example supports your position.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some topic-relevant vocabulary, including “work experience,” “upcoming challenges,” “consistent,” and “reputation,” which helps communicate your main ideas. However, the range and control are limited by repeated general wording and several inaccurate or unnatural choices. Examples include “younger youth,” “a mere of 70%,” “profits the students,” and “lazy buffers”; these expressions may confuse the reader or sound unsuitable for an academic essay. Spelling errors such as “experince,” “reson,” and “expeience” also reduce accuracy. Aim for precise, natural collocations and avoid unsupported or informal labels. For instance, describe students as “unmotivated” rather than using “lazy buffers,” and use “benefits students” instead of “profits the students.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more extended sentence forms, and the main meaning is usually understandable. For example, “Some students do not pay attention on the work experience and they just hangout all the day” combines related ideas, while the hospital example includes several details. However, some sentence structures and grammatical patterns are not controlled consistently. In “the work experience they had gained do not benefit them,” the subject and verb do not agree; “he worked their” also uses an incorrect form in the sentence. There are problems with articles, plurals, and prepositions, as in “70% students” and “pay attention on.” Review agreement and common sentence patterns, and use punctuation to separate long strings of ideas. More accurate complex sentences would improve clarity.
