Student answer (Band 6.0)

In the modern world, many young individuals decide to take a gap year after finishing school before getting into university in order to gain professional knowledge or to explore. However it is evident that nowadays taking a gap year has become a common practice. I strongly agree that this experience as it offer various benefits to young adults.

To begin with, gap of a year would provide them opportunity to gain experience and earn. Moreover, they can learn some practical skills to become independent as well as developing communication skills. Additionally, when they start university they become more confident while talking to other also while giving presentation. Furthermore, this would also help them in professional lives to improve mistakes. For instance, an article published by BBC reveals that gap year may provide experience and job opportunities to young individuals.

Nevertheless, another major benefit to take a gap year is making better career decisions. Similarly, when young adults step out to learn opportunities or to gain experience it would help them to choose a career that is more suitable for them. Furthermore, when they meet professionals and seek advices from them so, they can choose a career with more employment or business opportunities. To exemplify, a podcast by dawn reveals that gaining exoerience in gap year may help young adults to choose career wisely.

To cap it all, I believed that taking a gap year is a good practice as it help young individuals to develop communication skills as well as other opportunties to learn and grow. Moreover, being around professionals may help them to decide which field should they choose and which things they have to notice carefully while choosing a domain.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear: you strongly agree that a gap year benefits young people, and you give relevant reasons, including gaining practical experience, developing confidence and communication skills, and making better career choices. These points address the task, but they are not all developed equally. For example, the claim that a gap year helps students “improve mistakes” is unclear, and the references to a BBC article and a Dawn podcast are asserted rather than explained with a specific example of what someone learned. To strengthen the response, explain how a particular work or travel experience prepares a student for university, and develop the link between meeting professionals and choosing a suitable career.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs presenting benefits, and a conclusion that restates your view. Linking expressions such as “To begin with,” “Moreover,” and “Nevertheless” help signal the stages of the argument. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical, with several sentences beginning “Furthermore” or “Moreover,” and “Nevertheless” introduces another benefit rather than a contrasting point. Some connections between ideas are also unclear, particularly the move from practical skills to “improve mistakes.” Use a wider range of linking methods, including clear cause-and-effect links, and make sure each transition accurately reflects the relationship between the ideas.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a relevant range of vocabulary, including “practical skills,” “independent,” “professionals,” and “employment opportunities,” which allows you to discuss the topic clearly. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “career decisions” and “professional lives.” However, several word choices and collocations are unnatural or imprecise: “gain professional knowledge,” “learn opportunities,” “seek advices,” and “improve mistakes.” Spelling errors such as “exoerience” and “opportunties” also reduce accuracy. Aim to learn vocabulary in natural word partnerships and check spelling carefully; more precise phrasing would make your ideas sound clearer and more convincing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including clauses introduced by “when” and “as well as,” and the overall meaning is generally understandable. Some grammatical errors remain, however. For example, “I strongly agree that this experience as it offer” has an incomplete construction and incorrect subject–verb agreement; “a gap of a year would provide them opportunity” is missing an article; and “when they meet professionals … so, they can choose” combines clauses awkwardly. There are also agreement errors in the conclusion, such as “it help.” Practise building complete sentences with accurate agreement, articles, and clause connections, then proofread punctuation and sentence boundaries.
