Student answer (Band 4.5)

The topic is about many peoples choose to take a year out between finishing school and starting university in order to gain work experience. I will explain this in two views.

On one hand, it is not necessary for the students to get some break because when they take break then their heart does not want to work better, their mind changes totally when they go out in the market and see differnt peoples enjoying their life.

On other hand, i am agree with the sentence that many peoples choose to take a year out between finishing school and starting university in order to gain work experience, i will give one example on behalf of this sentence, as a medical lab technologist if someone complete their academic coursework in theory mode then they have to take some break to gain practical skills because as a medical lab technolgist it is mandatory fro the lab technologist to work in a medical laboratory where they can work practically and learn alot of new things easily by performing different tasks in the laboratory, also they have to practice in the phlebotomy section because it is a practical field and everyone should get enough experience about the practical skills and when patients come to the medical laboratory the medical lab technologist have to welcome tem in a good way more professionally to attract them.

In conclusion, i am totally disagree with the peoples that do not choose to take a year out between finishing school and starting university in order to gain work experience and totally agree with the peoples who choose to take a year out between finishing school and starting university in order to gain work experience.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

You give a clear overall preference for taking a year out, and the medical-laboratory example is relevant to gaining practical experience. However, the response only minimally develops the question: it focuses mainly on work experience and does not explain how non-academic life benefits students when they return to education, or address travel in a meaningful way. The opposing view is also asserted rather than supported, with the claim that students’ minds change after seeing others enjoy life left unclear. The conclusion repeats your position but does not add support. The response is 213 words, below the 250-word minimum; 72 words copied from the prompt were excluded from the count. Develop both sides of your argument and explain the link between experience and later study.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The response has a basic essay shape, with an introduction, two contrasting body paragraphs signalled by “On one hand” and “On other hand,” and a conclusion. These markers help readers identify the intended structure. However, progression within the paragraphs is weak: the first body paragraph moves from taking a break to students seeing people enjoying life without making the relationship clear. The second paragraph is one very long sentence containing several points about coursework, laboratory practice, phlebotomy, and welcoming patients, so the main idea is difficult to follow. The conclusion largely repeats the introduction. Use separate sentences to develop one point at a time, and connect each example explicitly to your argument.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some topic-related vocabulary, including “work experience,” “academic coursework,” “practical skills,” and “phlebotomy,” which helps communicate the example. However, the range is limited and several words or phrases are repeated, especially “take a year out,” “work experience,” and “practical.” Some choices are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “their heart does not want to work better,” “in the market,” and “in theory mode,” which make parts of the argument difficult to interpret. Spelling errors such as “differnt,” “technolgist,” and “alot” also reduce accuracy. Build a wider set of precise phrases for discussing independence, maturity, and readiness for university, and check spelling and collocations during revision.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences, including a conditional structure beginning “if someone complete their academic coursework.” However, the longer structures are often faulty and difficult to follow, and the response relies heavily on basic sentence patterns. Errors include “many peoples choose,” “I am agree,” “if someone complete,” and “the medical lab technologist have to,” involving plurals, verb forms, and subject–verb agreement. The extended sentence in the second body paragraph also needs clearer punctuation and sentence boundaries. These recurring errors sometimes make the intended meaning unclear. Practise accurate simple sentences first, then build longer sentences with controlled clauses, checking agreement and verb forms.
