Student answer (Band 5.0)

Many young people prefer to take a year gap between finishing school and starting university to experience different work place and travel. This non acedemic year feel so special to them after finishing school exam.

I totally agree with that students experience practical life far from academic life and they learn so many things from this life. Students start doing different jobs and traveling different countries or cities and that give them different jobs experiences and tell them how to earn. Through traveling, they learn about different cultures, places and way of living. A year without academic life is like a trailer of a practical life for them. Through this, they learn what makes them happy? and what they are good at? Year gap from studies open their mind to experience life.

Most of the people disagree with that according to them, giving space to students from studies distract them. Most of the students don't want to go back to there studies because they more like to become free and enjoying rather than studies. This is so stressful for parents. After school, students are teenager so, we can't push or force them. This is a genuine reason for not giving year gap to students but students will not able to experience different life from studies which could limit their thinking in studies.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You state a clear position with “I totally agree” and give relevant reasons: work can teach students about earning, while travel can expose them to other cultures and ways of life. You also acknowledge the opposing concern that a gap year may make students reluctant to return to study. However, these points are mostly asserted rather than explained with specific examples, and the response ends abruptly at “i also experience that after fininshing m,” leaving a personal example and conclusion unfinished. The response is also below the required 250 words. To strengthen the answer, develop one or two reasons with a concrete example and finish by explaining how the experience benefits students when they return to education.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

There is some organisation: the response moves from the benefits of a gap year to a counterargument, and phrases such as “Through traveling” and “Most of the people disagree” signal relationships between ideas. However, progression is limited because several points are listed without being linked or developed, and the final sentence is incomplete, so there is no clear ending. Some connections are also awkward or unclear, such as “This is a genuine reason … but students will not able to experience different life.” Use separate paragraphs for your position, supporting reasons, and opposing view, then add a conclusion. More precise linking and references would help the reader follow how each point supports your overall argument.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use a basic range of topic-related vocabulary, including “practical life,” “different cultures,” “studies,” and “distract,” which makes the main ideas understandable. However, vocabulary is repetitive, particularly “different,” “life,” and “students,” and several choices or collocations are inaccurate: “year gap,” “different work place,” and “jobs experiences” do not sound natural in this context. There are also spelling errors, including “acedemic” and “fininshing.” Aim to use more precise phrases for the benefits and risks of a gap year, and check spelling and word forms carefully. This would make your ideas clearer and more appropriate for an academic essay.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple sentences and longer structures, for example, “Most of the people disagree … because …,” and the main message is generally understandable. However, the range is limited, and errors occur frequently in verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence construction. Examples include “This non acedemic year feel,” “that give them,” and “students will not able to experience”; these need forms such as “feels,” “gives,” and “will not be able.” The question marks in “what makes them happy?” and “what they are good at?” are also unnecessary within the sentence. Practise building accurate complex sentences and proofreading each sentence for a complete verb and correct agreement.
