Student answer (Band 6.0)

The bar chart illustrates the number of hours taken by a female of different age group and females with multiple level of education, each week on primary activities.

Overall, it is clear that most of the women from various age groups and education level, spend there more time in Leisure and sports.

Firstly, women with ages below 19 and with ages above 55 are spending less time in working and work related activities and they are more active in Lesure and sports. Whereas women from the age 20 years to 55 years are involved in all three activities equally.

Furthermore, women with education above bachelor's have taken more time in working as compared to other. On the other hand, women who have education less then bachelor's are doing sports activities more as compared to other two activities.

In contrast, women over 65 have less spendings in working and women with graduation have more.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the task by identifying main features and making comparisons. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial and lacks sufficient detail from the data. For instance, the claim that women aged 20–55 are involved in all three activities 'equally' is not supported by the data, which shows distinct variations. Furthermore, the summary of educational attainment is vague, and the final sentence regarding women over 65 is confusing and lacks clarity. To reach a higher band, you should provide more specific data points (e.g., mentioning approximate hours) to support your observations and ensure that comparisons are accurate and clearly linked to the provided chart.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the logical progression is sometimes hindered by imprecise language and awkward phrasing. While some cohesive devices are used, such as 'Firstly', 'Furthermore', and 'In contrast', they are sometimes used mechanically. The referencing is occasionally unclear, particularly in the final paragraph where the comparison between 'women over 65' and 'women with graduation' lacks a clear connection to the preceding points. Improving the flow between sentences and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear, unified focus would significantly enhance the coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The range of vocabulary is adequate for the task but remains quite basic. There are several instances of awkward word choice and minor errors, such as 'number of hours taken by a female' (should be 'spent by women'), 'spend there more time' (should be 'spend more of their time'), and 'less spendings' (should be 'spent less time'). Additionally, 'graduation' is used incorrectly to refer to an educational level. To improve, focus on using more precise academic vocabulary related to data description, such as 'proportion', 'expenditure of time', or 'educational background', and ensure correct collocations.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The response uses a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the clarity of the message. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('women... have taken', 'women... are doing'), incorrect preposition usage ('with ages below 19'), and awkward phrasing ('women with education above bachelor's'). Punctuation is generally functional, but the overall control of complex structures is inconsistent. To improve, focus on mastering basic subject-verb agreement and refining the use of articles and prepositions, which would make your writing more accurate and professional.
