Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response fails to provide a clear overview of the main trends or significant differences in the data. It focuses on listing specific data points for isolated age groups rather than synthesizing the information or making meaningful comparisons. The introduction is repetitive and lacks a clear summary of the chart's purpose. Furthermore, the data interpretation is inconsistent; for instance, the response uses percentages, whereas the chart displays hours. This indicates a failure to accurately report the information provided in the prompt, which is a critical requirement for Task 1.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay lacks a logical structure. While there are some attempts at sequencing with words like 'Firstly' and 'Secondly', the progression of ideas is disjointed. Paragraphing is ineffective, as the response is essentially a list of fragmented sentences rather than a cohesive report. The use of cohesive devices is mechanical and does not help the reader follow the development of the information. The lack of a clear overview or concluding summary further hinders the overall flow of the text.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is very limited and repetitive, relying heavily on the words provided in the prompt. There is little evidence of the ability to use a range of vocabulary to describe trends, such as 'fluctuate', 'peak', 'decline', or 'remain stable'. The misuse of 'percent' instead of 'hours' demonstrates a lack of precision in reporting data. The language is basic and does not allow for the sophisticated description required for an Academic Task 1 response.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that often impede clarity. There are issues with sentence structure, such as fragments ('15 to 19 age women are working related activities') and incorrect verb usage. Many sentences lack a main verb or are poorly constructed, making them difficult to parse. There is no evidence of complex sentence structures, and the control over basic grammar is inconsistent. Punctuation is also problematic, with missing commas and run-on sentences throughout the text.
