Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the task achievement score. While you have attempted to identify some main features, the analysis is fragmented and lacks a clear, logical overview of the data. You have misinterpreted the data in several places, such as referring to 'percentage' when the chart measures 'hours', and the description of the trends is confusing. To improve, ensure you accurately report the units of measurement and provide a more comprehensive summary that covers all categories (age and education) clearly. The current response is too brief to fully develop the key features of the chart.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the progression of ideas is often unclear. The use of cohesive devices is mechanical and sometimes inaccurate, such as the abrupt transition 'Educational attainment its further rose'. The referencing is occasionally confusing, making it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison between age groups and educational levels. To achieve a higher band, focus on using a wider range of linking words (e.g., 'in contrast', 'similarly', 'whereas') to connect sentences and ideas more naturally. Ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence to guide the reader through the data.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is somewhat limited and repetitive. There are frequent errors in word choice, such as using 'percentage' instead of 'hours' and 'spent money per hour', which is not supported by the chart. The phrase 'recorded its lowest percentage' is used incorrectly. To improve, you should focus on using more precise terminology related to data description, such as 'figures', 'data', 'average', and 'duration'. Expanding your range of descriptive verbs and adverbs (e.g., 'fluctuated', 'remained stable', 'significantly') will help you describe the trends more accurately and professionally.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'its increased gradually' (should be 'it increased') and 'Aged 55 to 74 this activity fell' (missing preposition). There are also issues with subject-verb agreement and awkward phrasing throughout the text. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction and proofreading for common errors like missing articles, incorrect verb tenses, and pronoun usage. Increasing the variety of sentence structures while maintaining accuracy will help you reach a higher band.
