Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response effectively identifies the main features of the bar chart, including age-related trends and educational attainment patterns. You have successfully selected key data points to support your summary, such as the 27.3 hours for the 45-54 age group and the 51.7 hours for the 75+ group. The overview is clear and provides a good summary of the main trends. To reach a higher band, ensure that all comparisons are fully supported by the data; for instance, you mention that 'the higher the education level, the more time women spent working,' which is well-supported by the specific figures provided in the final paragraph. The response is well-balanced and covers all parts of the prompt.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The response is logically organized, with a clear introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs that group information by age and education level. The progression of ideas is smooth, and you use a variety of cohesive devices such as 'while,' 'instead,' and 'the higher the... the more...' to link your points. Paragraphing is used effectively to separate the different categories of data. To improve further, ensure that referencing is always precise; for example, 'instead they spent' could be more formally linked to the previous sentence to avoid slight mechanical phrasing. Overall, the information is easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey the information accurately, using terms like 'educational attainment,' 'segregation,' and 'invest less time.' There are some minor issues with word choice, such as 'most working group' (should be 'most active group in terms of work') and 'household works' (should be 'household chores' or 'domestic tasks'). While you attempt some less common vocabulary, these occasional inaccuracies prevent a higher score. However, the vocabulary is generally appropriate for an academic report and does not impede communication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as the comparative structure 'The higher the education level, the more time women spent working.' However, there are several grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement and tense consistency, such as 'women... works more' (should be 'work') and 'Women of age group 75 and more works' (should be 'work'). Additionally, 'household works' is non-count. While these errors are noticeable, they do not prevent the reader from understanding the data. Increasing the frequency of error-free complex sentences would help improve this score.
