Student answer (Band 7.0)

The bar chart illustrates the difference in number of hours women with different level of education and female with several age group spend on primary activities per week in 2009.

overall, Leisure & sport activity is most preferred by all age groups women as well as with females with diverse academic knowledge, making it top in the ranks compared to other counterparts.

Among the age groups, women aged 15 to 19 spent the greatest amount of time on leisure and sports (35.8 hours), compared with only 6.9 hours on work and 6 hours on household activities. Working hours then increased sharply, reaching a peak of around 27 hours among those aged 25 to 34, before gradually declining with age. By contrast, leisure time generally rose after middle age, reaching 51.7 hours among women aged 75 and over. Household activities also increased from 6 hours in the youngest group to approximately 19.5 hours in the oldest group.

In terms of educational attainment, women with less than a high school diploma recorded the highest amount of leisure time (43.1 hours), while those holding a bachelor's degree or higher spent the least time on leisure (around 27.4 hours). Conversely, work-related activities were highest among women with a bachelor's degree or above and lowest among those without a high school diploma. Time spent on household activities showed relatively little variation across the four educational groups, remaining between roughly 15 and 20 hours per week.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response effectively addresses the prompt by summarizing the main features of the bar chart. You have successfully identified key trends, such as the peak in leisure time for the oldest age group and the inverse relationship between education levels and leisure time. The data is accurately reported, and the comparisons between categories are clear. To reach a higher band, ensure that the overview is more distinct and comprehensive; while you mention leisure is the most preferred activity, you could briefly note the contrast in work-related trends to provide a more holistic summary of the data's main features.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5

The response is well-organized with a logical progression of ideas. You have used paragraphing effectively to separate age-related data from educational attainment data. Cohesive devices such as 'By contrast', 'Conversely', and 'In terms of' are used appropriately to guide the reader through the comparisons. The flow is smooth, and the information is presented in a way that is easy to follow. To improve, ensure that referencing is always precise; for example, 'their counterparts' is slightly vague in the introduction, though the context makes the meaning clear.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate a good range of vocabulary, using terms like 'educational attainment', 'recorded', and 'variation' effectively. The language is generally precise and appropriate for an academic report. There are a few minor issues with word choice, such as 'female with several age group' (should be 'females in various age groups') and 'academic knowledge' (which is slightly unnatural in this context). However, these errors do not impede communication. To achieve a higher score, try to incorporate more sophisticated collocations related to data interpretation, such as 'a significant disparity' or 'a downward trend'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

The response shows a good mix of simple and complex sentence structures. You have used comparative structures effectively to highlight differences in the data. There are some minor grammatical slips, such as 'difference in number of hours' (should be 'the number of hours') and 'all age groups women' (should be 'women of all age groups'). Despite these occasional errors, the majority of your sentences are error-free, and your control over punctuation and tense is consistent. The grammar is sufficiently accurate to support clear communication throughout the task.
