Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response fails to adequately summarise the main features of the data. While it mentions age groups and education, it lacks a clear overview and fails to report key data points accurately. For example, the statement 'The women spent average hours on bachelor’s degree is 27.30' is confusing and does not correctly interpret the chart's data regarding primary activities. The response focuses on isolated details rather than identifying significant trends or making meaningful comparisons between the categories. To improve, you must provide a clear summary of the overall trends and support these with accurate, well-selected data from the chart.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The response is organised into paragraphs, but the progression of ideas is disjointed. While some cohesive devices like 'Moreover' and 'However' are used, they are often placed awkwardly or do not logically connect the preceding and following sentences. The paragraphing is present but does not effectively group related information. For instance, the transition between discussing age groups and educational attainment is abrupt and lacks a clear logical flow. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring each paragraph has a clear focus would significantly enhance the readability and structure of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The range of vocabulary is limited and repetitive. There are several instances of awkward phrasing and incorrect word choice, such as 'spent most of there hours' (should be 'their') and 'the barchart also have educational attainment'. The vocabulary used is basic and does not demonstrate the flexibility required for higher bands. To improve, focus on using more precise terminology related to data description, such as 'proportion', 'fluctuated', 'accounted for', or 'significant disparity', and ensure you are using the correct forms of words in context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'the barchart also have'), incorrect pronoun usage ('there' instead of 'their'), and awkward sentence construction (e.g., 'most of the women falls in the category'). The range of structures is limited, consisting mostly of simple sentences. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence structures, ensuring correct verb tense usage, and proofreading for common errors like subject-verb agreement and homophones. Increasing the use of complex sentences will also help improve your score.
