Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to accurately interpret the data provided in the chart. There are significant factual errors, such as referencing 'age 125 and over,' which does not exist on the chart, and misinterpreting the categories of educational attainment as age groups. The summary of the main features is confused, and the data points cited are often inaccurate or unclear. While the response attempts to address the prompt, the lack of precision and the inclusion of non-existent data points mean the task is not adequately fulfilled. To improve, focus on carefully reading the labels on the axes and ensuring that the data reported matches the visual information provided.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the progression of ideas is illogical and confusing. The use of cohesive devices is mechanical and sometimes inappropriate, such as the repetitive use of 'In terms of' and 'In comparison.' The referencing is often unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow which data points are being compared. The lack of logical flow between sentences and the misinterpretation of the chart categories significantly hinder the overall coherence of the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, relying on basic phrases like 'time spent' and 'number of hours.' There are errors in word choice, such as 'educational attainment' being used as a category of people rather than a level of schooling. The spelling error 'comparitevly' also detracts from the quality of the writing. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use a wider range of vocabulary to describe trends and comparisons, such as 'fluctuated,' 'remained constant,' or 'exceeded.'
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Examples include 'average time spend' (should be 'spent'), 'women of age 125 and over' (incorrect prepositional phrase), and 'time spent of different tasks' (incorrect preposition). These errors are frequent and occasionally impede the clarity of the information being presented. A greater focus on subject-verb agreement and correct preposition usage is necessary to improve the accuracy of your writing.
