Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of the chart, such as the age-related trends and the impact of education. However, the reporting of data is inconsistent and sometimes inaccurate. For instance, the grouping of age ranges like '(28-32) hours' is confusing, as it is unclear if these are data points or ranges. The summary lacks a clear overview of the most significant trends, such as the inverse relationship between age and working hours. While the task is addressed, the lack of precision in data selection and the failure to clearly distinguish between the two categories (age vs. education) in the analysis prevents a higher score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the logical progression is weak. The transition between the age-based data and the education-based data is abrupt. Cohesive devices are used, but they are often repetitive or misused, such as starting a sentence with 'Than comes' (should be 'Then') or 'While the of age'. The referencing is sometimes unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison between different groups. Paragraphing is present, but the internal structure of the paragraphs lacks a cohesive flow, often reading like a list of disconnected observations rather than a synthesised report.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. There is a reliance on basic terms like 'activities', 'chores', and 'time'. Some word choices are unnatural or incorrect, such as 'leisures' (leisure is an uncountable noun) and 'senior citizens of the society'. The student attempts to use some specific terminology, but the phrasing often feels clunky. There are also errors in word formation and collocation that, while not completely impeding communication, demonstrate a limited range that prevents the response from reaching a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but accuracy is inconsistent. There are frequent grammatical errors, including missing articles ('the women of age'), incorrect prepositions, and subject-verb agreement issues ('women with less education had their focus'). Punctuation is also problematic, with unnecessary parentheses used to enclose data points, which disrupts the flow of the text. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors in basic sentence construction limits the score. More attention to proofreading for basic grammatical rules is required.
