Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers the main features of the chart, but the analysis is somewhat superficial. You have identified some trends, but the data reporting is inconsistent. For instance, you mention percentages (36%) which are not present in the provided chart, as the data represents 'average hours'. Furthermore, the comparison between age groups and educational attainment is not fully developed. To improve, ensure you accurately interpret the units of measurement and provide more specific data points to support your observations. The overview is present but could be more clearly integrated to highlight the most significant trends across both categories.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the logical progression is sometimes hindered by awkward phrasing and mechanical use of cohesive devices. For example, 'To begin with the age group' is a slightly unnatural way to introduce the first body paragraph. While you use transition words like 'Moreover' and 'Furthermore', the connection between sentences is occasionally weak. The referencing is sometimes unclear, making it difficult to track which data point corresponds to which category. Improving the flow between sentences and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear, singular focus would enhance the coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the precision required for a higher band. You rely on basic descriptors like 'increased' and 'fluctuating'. There are also some inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'high school diploma sector', which does not accurately describe the data categories. Additionally, there are minor errors in word formation, such as 'house hold' (should be one word: 'household'). To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more varied and precise vocabulary related to data trends, such as 'peaked at', 'remained stable', or 'showed a downward trend'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. For example, 'the chart is consists of' is grammatically incorrect; it should be 'the chart consists of'. There are also issues with article usage and prepositional phrases, such as 'in time frame 2009' (should be 'in the 2009 time frame'). While the meaning is generally clear, the frequency of these errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and correct preposition usage will significantly improve the accuracy of your writing.
