Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response provides a summary of the main features, but the analysis is inconsistent and lacks precision. While you identify some key trends, such as the dominance of leisure activities, the data reporting is often inaccurate or vague (e.g., 'between 6 to 9' is unclear). You attempt to make comparisons, but the grouping of data is confusing, particularly when discussing educational levels. To improve, ensure that you accurately transcribe the figures from the chart and group the information logically, perhaps by activity type or age category, rather than jumping between them in a way that obscures the overall trends. The overview is present but lacks the necessary detail to fully capture the main features of the chart.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which is a positive step. However, the logical progression is frequently interrupted by awkward phrasing and unclear referencing. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Moving on to' and 'Moreover', but they are sometimes used mechanically or inappropriately, making the flow feel disjointed. The referencing (e.g., 'the other two categories') is ambiguous because the categories were not clearly defined earlier in the text. To reach a higher band, focus on using transition signals that clearly link your ideas and ensure that each paragraph has a clear, singular focus that builds upon the previous one.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and often repetitive. There are several instances of word-choice errors and non-standard collocations, such as 'teen agers girls', 'working related activities', and 'speare activities'. The phrase 'the interesting think was' is grammatically incorrect and inappropriate for an academic report. While you attempt to use some topic-specific vocabulary like 'educational attainment' or 'primary activities', the overall range is insufficient to convey information with precision. You should focus on learning accurate collocations for data reporting and expanding your range of verbs and nouns related to trends and comparisons.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the reader's understanding. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'age of 20 to 44 shows', 'all females age groups prefer to spent'), incorrect verb forms ('prefer to spent', 'least time spent'), and sentence structure. Punctuation is also problematic, with erratic spacing and missing commas. While you attempt some complex sentence structures, they are often marred by errors. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, specifically ensuring that your verbs agree with their subjects and that you use consistent tense forms when describing data from a past year.
