The provided bar chart demonstrates the average time spent by women on daily activities, namely, working & work related activities, leisure & sports and household activities, categorised by age groups and educational attainment in the year 2009.
The statistics indicate that when the data was categorised by age group, leisure and sports was the most prominent activity among all age groups of women. Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the task achievement score. Furthermore, the essay is incomplete, ending abruptly mid-sentence ('While women who had a degree spe'). Because the response is unfinished, it fails to provide a full overview or a complete comparison of the data provided in the chart. While the introduction and the first body paragraph attempt to identify some trends, the lack of completion means the task is only partially addressed. To improve, ensure you complete your analysis and provide a clear, concise summary of the main features before the word count limit.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which is a positive start. However, the abrupt ending disrupts the logical flow and coherence of the final section. Cohesive devices such as 'The statistics indicate that' and 'When the data was categorised by' are used, but they are somewhat mechanical. The progression of ideas is hindered by the incomplete nature of the final paragraph, making it difficult to follow the comparison intended by the writer. To improve, focus on ensuring each paragraph has a clear concluding thought and that transitions between ideas are smooth and complete.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task, with terms like 'educational attainment', 'categorised', and 'prominent' being used correctly. However, there is some repetition of basic phrases such as 'activity' and 'data'. The range of vocabulary is limited, and the incomplete sentence at the end prevents the demonstration of more sophisticated or varied lexical choices. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more precise synonyms and avoid repeating the same nouns and verbs throughout the text.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are some grammatical errors, such as 'was highest amount of time of week was spent', which is syntactically awkward and unclear. Punctuation is generally acceptable, but the incomplete sentence at the end is a major issue. While the writer attempts to use complex structures, the lack of completion and the presence of awkward phrasing limit the score. Focus on proofreading for subject-verb agreement and ensuring that complex sentences are constructed with clear, logical clauses.
