Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the task achievement score. While you have identified some main features, such as the trends in work and leisure activities across age groups, the analysis is quite superficial. You have not fully developed the comparisons between the educational attainment categories, and the data interpretation is somewhat fragmented. To improve, ensure you provide a more comprehensive overview and include specific data points to support your observations. The current length and lack of detail mean the task is only partially addressed.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay lacks a clear structure. The paragraphs are very short and do not follow a logical flow. There is a lack of cohesive devices to link ideas together; for example, the transition between the age-related data and the education-related data is abrupt. The use of paragraphing is insufficient, and the overall progression of ideas is disjointed. To improve, use linking words such as 'furthermore', 'in contrast', or 'consequently' to connect your sentences and ensure each paragraph has a clear topic sentence that guides the reader through your analysis.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for a higher band. You rely on basic terms like 'stats shows' and 'rise'. There are also some issues with word choice, such as 'primary years', which is not the most accurate way to describe age brackets. To improve, try to incorporate more academic vocabulary related to data description, such as 'fluctuation', 'proportion', 'predominant', or 'trend'. Additionally, ensure you use precise terminology when referring to the categories provided in the chart.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
There are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation throughout the text. For instance, you have issues with capitalization ('leisure and sport', 'similarly'), missing articles ('in Year 2009'), and run-on sentences. The sentence structures are relatively simple, and there is a lack of complex grammatical forms. To improve, focus on basic sentence construction, including correct subject-verb agreement and proper punctuation. Proofreading your work for minor errors like missing capital letters and incorrect prepositions will help improve the clarity and accuracy of your writing.
