Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response fails to adequately summarise the main features of the data. While it mentions the chart topic, it lacks a clear overview and fails to make meaningful comparisons between the categories. The data points cited (21.1 and 6.0) are presented in isolation without context, and the analysis of the age groups and education levels is confusing and inaccurate. The response does not effectively highlight the trends or differences between the primary activities, which is essential for an Academic Task 1. Consequently, the information is not well-selected or clearly reported, leading to a limited response that does not fully address the requirements of the prompt.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response is organised into paragraphs, but the progression of ideas is disjointed. There is a lack of logical flow between sentences, and the use of cohesive devices is mechanical and sometimes inappropriate, such as the repetitive use of 'The bar chart contains' and 'These activities are'. Referencing is often unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the connection between the age groups and the activities described. While there is an attempt to structure the essay, the lack of clear logical progression and the ineffective use of linking words hinder the overall coherence of the report.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, which restricts the ability to convey information precisely. There are frequent errors in word choice and form, such as 'womens' instead of 'women' and 'perform' used incorrectly in the context of data. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to describe trends or comparisons effectively. Spelling errors, such as 'differennt' and 'suchc', are also present. To improve, you should focus on using more precise terminology for describing data, such as 'fluctuated', 'peaked', or 'remained constant', and ensure that you use nouns and verbs correctly in their plural and singular forms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response relies on a limited range of simple sentence structures. There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ('These womens has', 'every women has', 'most of the womens performs') and incorrect article usage. These errors are persistent and occasionally make the meaning unclear. While the reader can generally understand the intended message, the lack of control over basic grammatical structures and the absence of complex sentence forms prevent the response from reaching a higher band. More attention to basic grammar rules and sentence construction is required.
