Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.5

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the task achievement score. While you have attempted to identify some trends, the analysis is incomplete and lacks a comprehensive overview of the data provided in the chart. You have focused on isolated figures rather than synthesizing the information to highlight key comparisons between age groups and educational levels. To improve, ensure you cover all categories presented in the chart and provide a clear, analytical summary that groups data logically rather than listing individual statistics. The current response is too brief to fully address the requirements of the task.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organized into short paragraphs, but the logical progression is weak. The use of cohesive devices is limited and sometimes mechanical, such as the repetitive use of 'Women who are...' to start sentences. There is a lack of effective linking words to connect ideas between sentences and paragraphs, making the flow feel disjointed. To improve, use a wider variety of transition signals (e.g., 'in contrast,' 'conversely,' 'furthermore') to guide the reader through your analysis. Additionally, ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence that relates back to the overall trend of the data.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is somewhat limited and repetitive. Phrases like 'spend their time' and 'busy most of the time' are used frequently, which restricts the range of expression. There are also some inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'it is fluctuated,' which is grammatically incorrect and imprecise. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use more varied and precise vocabulary to describe trends, such as 'fluctuates,' 'remains stable,' or 'shows a downward trend.' Expanding your range of academic collocations will help you convey information more effectively and professionally.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

There are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the clarity of your writing. For example, 'women those are 75 and older, they spend' is a redundant structure, and 'it is fluctuated' is an incorrect passive construction. You rely heavily on simple sentence structures, and attempts at more complex sentences often contain errors in subject-verb agreement or clause construction. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence structure and reducing redundancy. Practice using complex sentences with subordinate clauses correctly, and ensure that your verb tenses are consistent when describing data from a specific year.
