Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to address the task but fails to provide a clear overview or accurately report the data. The summary is disjointed, and the selection of features is inconsistent. For instance, the mention of '51%' and '42.1%' lacks context regarding whether these are hours or percentages, and the interpretation of the data is often confusing. The response lacks a clear comparison between the categories, and the information provided is not fully developed. To improve, you must ensure that the data points are accurately transcribed from the chart and that you provide a clear, logical summary of the main trends rather than listing isolated figures.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay lacks a clear structure. While there is an attempt at paragraphing, the progression of ideas is not logical. The use of cohesive devices is mechanical and sometimes inaccurate, such as 'To add on more' and 'Moreover if we talk'. Referencing is often unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison between age groups and educational levels. The lack of clear transitions between sentences and paragraphs hinders the overall flow of the report. You should focus on using linking words more naturally and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear, singular focus.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The range of vocabulary is limited and often inaccurate. There are several instances of awkward phrasing and incorrect word choices, such as 'mostly every age and professional women's pass their time' and 'largest lassoer and sports time'. The term 'largeness time' is not standard English. The vocabulary is repetitive and lacks the precision required for an Academic Task 1 report. To improve, you should practice using more precise terminology related to data description, such as 'proportion', 'significant', 'trend', and 'category', and ensure that you use words in their correct grammatical form.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are issues with subject-verb agreement ('women spent largeness time'), article usage ('the 75 years'), and sentence structure. Many sentences are poorly constructed, such as 'the data illustrate the information about how much time was spend'. While there is an attempt to use complex structures, they are often faulty. You need to focus on basic sentence construction, ensuring correct verb tenses and proper word order. Regular practice with proofreading for common errors like pluralization and verb forms will help improve your accuracy.
