Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response successfully addresses all parts of the task by reporting the main features of the bar chart and making relevant comparisons across different age groups and educational levels. The overview captures the dominant trend that women spent the majority of their hours on leisure and sports activities. Key figures are appropriately selected and cited, such as the 36.8 hours for the 15-to-19 age group and the peak household activity hours at 21.7 for the 65-to-74 group. Although there are some minor inaccuracies in data interpretation and phrasing, the overall coverage of the prompt is solid, meeting the criteria for a Band 6.5 or 7.0. Because ideas are extended and supported with relevant data points, a band score of 6.5 is well-earned.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The response demonstrates a clear overall arrangement with a logical progression from an introductory summary to specific breakdowns by age and education. Paragraphing is used sufficiently to separate distinct thematic areas, such as age-related data and education-related data. Cohesive devices are employed, including transitional phrases like 'Overall, it is clear that', 'In 2009', 'After that', and 'However'. However, some cohesive links feel a bit mechanical or awkward, such as 'alongside with educational attainment women', and referencing is occasionally unclear. Overall cohesion is satisfactory for a Band 6.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary suitable for an Academic Task 1 response, incorporating topic-specific terms like 'educational attainment', 'leisure and sports activity', and 'household activities'. There are, however, noticeable word-choice errors and awkward collocations throughout the text, such as 'describes the list of activities that the women... spend the average number of hours' and 'spent lower hours on household'. Spelling is generally acceptable, but lexical control is inconsistent, placing the response firmly at Band 6.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting structures like 'while the number was at 32.7 hours for the age group of 20 to 24'. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with missing articles ('the most of the women', 'spent 1.3 hours on working activity'), tense inconsistencies ('spend' instead of 'spent'), and preposition misuse ('spend on an average'). These errors occasionally create minor reading friction, though communication is not impeded. This performance aligns with the Band 5.5 descriptors.
