Student answer (Band 5.0)

Starting off with the age groups of 15-19 of women's primary activities, The hours which are standing out in all 3 activities are for Leisure & sports. Moving on to the age group 20-24, Noticebly the Working & work related activities rise up close to Leisure & sports with the hours 22.1 and 32.7 respectively and we see a bit of decrease in in Leisure & sports as comparison with the 15-19 age group. Moving on to next age groups, we see a common pattern in the age groups 25-34 35-44 45-54, which is that hours of Working & work related activities are very similar in all these age groups with just a minor difference of almost 1 hour, and Leisure & Sports and Household activites gradually slowly increasing.

Now the older age groups 55-64, 65-74, 75 & over, We see a very noticable increase in Leisure and Sports and a very sudden decrease in Working activities because of the old age while Household activities remain almost constant.

Now if we talk about Educational Attainment, One thing is common in all is that they have almost constant hours in Leisure & sports, While Working & work related activities are quite low in People with educational attainment less than a high school diploma, but they are quite similar in the rest of them.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response makes an attempt to cover the main features of the visual data regarding age groups and educational attainment, but the analysis is flawed by a lack of specific data points. While the student mentions a few numbers such as 22.1 and 32.7 for the 20-24 age group, the rest of the response relies on vague descriptions like 'a bit of decrease' or 'gradually slowly increasing' without sufficient accurate referencing. Furthermore, the report is truncated and fails to fully synthesise the information or make comprehensive comparisons. Because the ideas remain partially developed and lack a systematic overview, this response aligns closely with Band 5.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The text suffers from poor structural organisation and inappropriate paragraphing. The response begins with conversational openings like 'Starting off with...' and 'Now if we talk about...', which are unsuitable for an academic report. Paragraph breaks are inconsistent, and cohesive devices are repetitive and mechanical. The progression of ideas is sometimes confusing, jumping between age groups and educational attainment categories without clear transitions or an overarching logical sequence. While the general direction of information is traceable, the lack of sophisticated cohesive control and weak paragraphing place this response firmly in Band 5.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The student demonstrates an adequate vocabulary for the task, attempting appropriate terms such as 'educational attainment', 'constant', and 'decrease'. However, there are notable lexical shortcomings, including spelling and punctuation issues like 'Noticebly' and 'activites'. The range of vocabulary is rather limited and repetitive, with phrases like 'Moving on to next age groups' and 'very similar' recurring frequently. While communication is not severely hindered, the lack of precise less common items and the presence of basic errors restrict the score to a Band 5.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but control over grammar is inconsistent. There are several run-on sentences and awkward phrasings, such as 'which is that hours of Working & work related activities are very similar in all these age groups with just a minor difference of almost 1 hour, and Leisure & Sports and Household activites gradually slowly increasing.' Grammatical errors and awkward punctuation, such as missing commas and uncapitalised words, occur frequently throughout the text. Although the meaning can mostly be understood, the frequency of errors prevents the grammar from reaching a higher band.
