The bar chart below shows the average number of hours that women in various age groups and women with varying levels of education spend on primary activities each week.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

The bar chart shows the average number of hours per week that women spent on three different activities in 2009. It compares women of different ages and educational levels.

Overall, leisure and sports took up the most time for many women, especially older women. Women with higher education generally spent more time working, while women with lower education spent more time

Looking at age, women aged 15 to 19 spent about 6.9 hours on work and 6 hours on household activities, while they spent 36.8 hours on leisure and sports. Work hours increased with age and reached around 27 hours for women aged 25 to 54. After the age of 55, working time decreased. The oldest women, aged 75 and over, spent only 1.3 hours on work, but they spent the most time on leisure, at about 51.7 hours. They also spent around 19.5 hours on household activities.

The figures for education show a similar pattern. Women with less than a high-school diploma spent the most time on leisure, at about 42 hours per week, while they worked for around 10.7 hours. In comparison, women with a bachelor’s degree or higher worked for about 27.4 hours and spent 28.6 hours on leisure. Household activities were fairly similar among the education groups, ranging from about 15 to 20 hours per week.
