Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The student attempts to address the prompt by summarizing information from the bar chart regarding women's primary activities by age and educational attainment. However, there are significant issues with data interpretation and description. For example, the writer claims that leisure and sports activities in every age group experienced a dramatic increase and that leisure and sports remained stable, which contradicts the actual data showing fluctuations across different age brackets. Furthermore, many sentences are confused, blending age groups with education levels incorrectly (e.g., 'then high school to bachelor's degree started to 10.7'). While the overview attempts to capture main trends, the inaccurate reporting of data and lack of clear comparative features limit the development of the task, positioning this performance firmly at Band 5.0.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response is organized into paragraphs, starting with an introduction followed by body sections and a brief concluding summary sentence. However, the overall progression is severely hindered by confusing transitions and logical disconnects between sentences. Phrases such as 'then high school to bachelor's degree started to 10.7' create a disjointed flow where ideas are abruptly shifted without clear logical connection. Cohesive devices are used mechanically or inappropriately (e.g., excessive and repetitive use of 'then' and 'while'), making the text difficult to follow. Paragraphing is present, but internal cohesion and referencing are weak, aligning with the criteria for Band 5.0.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is very basic and repetitive, with frequent spelling errors such as 'avarsge', 'woman' (used instead of women), and 'dramtic'. The student attempts some topic-related vocabulary like 'primary activities', 'educational attainment', and 'proportion', but word choice and collocation are frequently inaccurate, such as 'rose sharply increase' and 'household smallest category'. The limited control over word formation and spelling errors ('degree', 'remaind') occasionally causes strain for the reader, placing the lexical range within the Band 5.0 descriptors.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but control over grammar and punctuation is weak. There are frequent grammatical errors, such as missing verbs or prepositions ('working and work related activities were around to 6.9', 'rose to sharply reach a peak'), and issues with subject-verb agreement or pluralization ('woman in various age groups'). Punctuation is also flawed, with missing commas after introductory phrases and an unnecessary space before a comma ('In contrast , working...'). Because errors are frequent and occasionally obscure the meaning of sentences, a score of 5.0 is appropriate.
