Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The student attempts to address the task by summarizing the main features of the chart regarding age groups and educational attainment. However, there are significant issues with task interpretation and unsupported commentary. For example, the writer adds personal assumptions not present in the data, stating that leisure time 'is a positive indicator that shows women of all ages are concern about their physical and mental health' and that women are 'career oriented'. Furthermore, the reporting of specific figures contains some inaccuracies, such as claiming working hours average 25 hours per week overall, when the chart shows fluctuations from 1.3 to 27 hours depending on the age group. The overview is weak, and the response borders on over-generalizing without fully capturing the distinct patterns of the three categories. It addresses the task partially.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response is organized into two main paragraphs addressing the two sections of the chart (age and education). Progression is attempted through transition words like 'Firstly', 'Second comes', 'Lastly', and 'Secong statistical data'. However, the logical flow is disrupted by poor paragraphing, abrupt shifts, and repetitive structural patterns. Cohesive devices are sometimes mechanical or misused, such as 'Secong statistical data shows distribution of activities from Female who doesnt even have High School Diploma to Females who holds Bachelors or higher degree.' Referencing is occasionally unclear, and the lack of a clear, unified introduction and conclusion detracts from the overall coherence of the essay.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, but it is limited and repetitive, with noticeable errors in word choice, form, and spelling. Examples include 'abouts how much hours does women spend', 'categaries', 'postive', 'concern' instead of concerned, 'female' instead of females, 'thier', 'House-hold', and 'Secong'. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary such as 'segregated', 'surging', and 'educational attainment', but these are often accompanied by awkward collocations or grammatical mistakes. The lexical range is minimally adequate to convey basic ideas, but errors occasionally cause strain for the reader.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response displays a very limited range of grammatical structures, and attempts at complex sentences frequently result in errors. There are frequent issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'hours does women spend', 'female spent', 'time spend on House hold activies seem average') and tense consistency. Punctuation is also problematic, with several run-on sentences lacking proper conjunctions or full stops (e.g., 'Firstly it was segregated by age, it can be seen that...'). While the basic meaning can usually be discerned, frequent grammatical errors cause difficulty and distraction for the reader throughout the text.
